Well it is in a few days for the Tsport, but I can't wait to tell you how it got on at the early(as in before it was due, not 6.00am)MOT today. I got it cleaned inside and out yesterday by the Bulgarians near Tesco's, and just as they do every time it goes in there, they were very keen on buying it. One of them even said he would buy it if it failed the MOT, they really like Yaris's there, there were two MK1s and a MK2 that the staff run. They took a lot of care cleaning mine over an hour or so, and made a pretty good job I reckon. So to the MOT station today, and I asked the tester if I could have a look for myself under the car while it was up on the ramps, surprisingly they said yes, what with me being a bit doddery on my feet, and elf and safety and all that. So I finally saw the underneath, and it's not bad at all, the surface rust that I was a bit worried about,is just that, no rot, and overall very clean under there. No worse I would think than a 5 year old car subjected to UK roads. No problems with emissions, brakes, anything at all, apart from the driver's side wiper blade being split at the bottom, soon sorted with a £8 Bosch one from europarts next door. So again another pass, so very happy with this remarkable little car once again.16 points

Book the service online (Toyota website and specify your usual garage) and it's £370 and lists what is included (eg spark plugs!). Print off the list showing what you've bought and they should service it according to to that/the standard schedule. My main dealer started adding bits on (fuel cleaners, AC cleaner etc which I didn't want but which put the cost of the service up) making the service more expensive than it should be. I now book online and get the standard service at the standard cost. A bit naughty really as unless you know better you pay about £60+ for them to pour 2 bottles of stuff in your car (which you can buy from them and pour yourself for about £25 (if you felt you needed it). Starting to get fed up with having to challenge them on stuff all the time. 12 years loyalty is basically taken as meaning they can try to exploit me. Didn't used to be like that.10 points

Since buying my Yaris Cross I have always found the arm rest to be much too low to be of any use which irritated me so I decided to lift it to a comfortable height. I did some trigonometric calculations on the back of an empty packet of Marlboro Gold and bingo.....found a solution. I stuffed the cigarette packet with scrunched up paper to make it more rigid, wrapped it in insulation tape, put a loop of tape on the bottom to keep it in position and bunged it under the arm rest. Worked a treat. 🤪9 points

An old fella told me on my wedding day (44 years ago yesterday) “a bit of advice, never let the sun come up on your wrath”, in other words, if you have a row with the mrs, start the following day brand new and I must admit it works. However, I have noticed, I am least patient in a morning but the forum doesn’t let you edit after a short while so if I let rip at first light (not talking about wind) I can’t back pedal even if I want to. I’m not having a go at Tony, I like him and I hope we can debate stuff without getting offended but I certainly don’t agree with the author of the thread. People come on the forum to gather information that helps them decide whether to buy one of these cars and reading this lot could be put off a fantastic car - just about the most reliable in the world. Manchester has an enormous fleet of taxis. They are probably 80% Toyota Hybrids with monumental mileages and are driven by people that are woefully incompetent. If anybody can break one, they can and there are no Fords, Vauxhalls or German cars because they would ruin a taxi company in no time with repair bills. They don’t care if it’s in B or D any combination at any time as long as it goes and many of them are between quarter and half a million miles. If I can get any conversation out of them, I often ask if any problems and I’ve never had any of them say other than “no, just oil changes”. The cars are clearly tired and in need of four shock absorbers, they have lumps on tyres where they’ve been bounced off multiple kerbs, some sound like they’ve got a constant Lancaster bomber escort with the wheel bearings moaning BUT, I’ve never heard a single one with a noisy engine or hybrid powertrain. Then we get somebody with a 23 model that has decided because he doesn’t understand how the system works but the graphics prove it doesn’t work right, he’s got a demic and Toyota quality is poor. It’s not a question, it’s a fact. I admit, I haven’t got a lot of patience for that kind of rhetoric. 😉8 points

Back in the early 80s , my then wife started to show interest in driving. I asked her what type of car she would like, obviously restricted to what we could afford in those days. She said, and I ain't making this up,"a white one" So we had a drive around to look at the dodgy Dave dealers, and she spotted one that she really liked the look of,a late 70s Yugo hatchback in white. Even back then, young and naive, I knew not to buy into that kind of crap. So, she finished up with a MK2 escort, and put it in a ditch in the first week, fortunately not hurt. A bus stop was nearby.8 points

Guys today after my work I drove in B mode. I also drove in B mode down the hill, I also drove for about 45 minutes on the highway D mode. After B mode and D driving the car on the road, everything returned to normal. I left the car in the garage for 6 hours and tried again. Hybrid EV works and the engine shuts off quickly. I have an appointment on Thursday at Toyota. I will test drive the car again tomorrow after an night, and I will let you know if everything is normal.Thank you very much for your advice. Greetings from Germany. .8 points

Hi everyone, my car’s horn been playing about for few years now, sometimes works, sometimes it doesn’t, usually after car wash been ok but then in the dry weather stops working again been on and off until one day just completely stopped. When pressed on the steering wheel the horn was trying to sound but only some quiet clicks were produced so I thought it is a time for new horn. After some chat and discussion in Yaris forum Anchorman kindly presented me with his “old” ( brand new) original Toyota horn taken out from his Yaris Cross. I had received the horn today via post and fitted to the car. I managed to do the work without removing the front bumper. Just needed to remove few bolts and few plastic clips. The wireless harness was a bit stuck but wd-40 silicone spray helped and then some wd-40 contact cleaner to clean the wire plug. The horn bolt was a bit hard to undo too, obviously the rust here is the enemy. The new horn from Yaris cross has slightly shorter fixing bracket but all went in place nicely and the wire was just about the right length. It’s all good now and I have working new horn from a Yaris cross , perhaps will gain extra 5mpg as a result 🤣 Once again Special Thanks to Anchorman for the horn 🙏 2A83A2E0-4691-4BD1-882E-3691C65E0B45.MOV8 points

Tabloids do it well - “experts say we could have an Indian summer”. Who are the experts, how do you define expert and how likely is could and where? My prediction is far better than that. I 100% guarantee there will be an Indian summer! (You will have to be in India to see it).8 points

Well, I collected my C-HR this afternoon. Obviously it is way too early to start enthusing, but after doing 50 miles I can say I am impressed. 👍. It seems so much smoother, quieter and comfortable. The car has 19" wheels with 'Bridgestone' tyres. AND the head unit thingywotsit plays MP4 video files, which the Yaris Cross was unable to do.8 points

The first big one. 100.000 miles in my Corolla 2.0, Build 11/2019. Nothing has been broken. Front discs has just been replaced. 1 set of wipers, 1 set of summer/ winter tyres. Upgrade to Android Auto. That's it. Nothing else. All services has been done by the same dealer. It has been trouble free and cheap driving.7 points

My car was with the dealership for 6 weeks. After a month I did lodge a complaint by email at which point I was given an anticipated delivery date for the parts. This helped me in that it gave me something to look forward to. Leaving the customer waiting without any idea of how long he is going to have to wait is surely not acceptable. I am pleased to say my Yaris is now back with me and running well.7 points

Update on the service with my Auris. Yesterday I did service number 31 since new and 26th of my own. This time not many things, just engine oil, oil filter, air filter and cabin filter. Topped up a bit of coolant , and screen wash. Under bonnet inspection, suspension, and undercarriage checks. Nothing unusual here, but the rust progressively eats my car. Apart from that all looks good. Engine oil at 9k miles intervals looked typically darker, I used stp engine flush again and the oil came out so thin, almost like water. Cabin and air filter not too dirty this time but cheap enough to replace often, nothing it’s better than new. Now the tyres, I did first rotating since I bought them back in February. Total travelled 11000 miles. The fronts were around 7-7.5mm , and rears at 8mm. Next rotating will be cross pattern and will do the brakes, clean and lube and put a new wipers , projected date will be October as I don’t drive as much as before (3 service per year instead of 5)😊7 points

What stress does it cause Tony? It gives a retardation force but a lot less load on the motors (presumably what you refer to as stress) in overrun than it does under power. This whole thread is full of conjecture and speculation about the way the dreaded B mode works. If it was capable of damage, they wouldn’t rely on over qualified chumps to control the situation, they’d build in some protection and certainly in terms of overcharging they do and it’s easy to observe and hear the system hand off to engine braking when the battery gets to 100%. If that graphic is the be all and end all, then there is an imaginary state of over 100% where it turns red and the operator is capable of cooking the traction battery. There’s also a point where the owner can damage the hybrid powertrain by overuse of the B mode and negligent Toyota and Lexus designers are inundated by failed powertrains. Oh wait, no there isn’t, they thought about that and it never happens. Never. Not once.7 points

This is just another example how bad service in dealers network is. If me I won’t trust them now at all. The thing is that with coolant almost impossible to tell difference between old and new based on colour and appearance so they could have easily lie to you. If me I will further investigate. Check drain plug for signs of wet, is the plug easily turn, level of coolant and also take example from the reservoir and see if any smell of petrol is present. And if I catch it’s not changed then they will regret their behaviour . What is next it’s your personal choice. Even if not changed not a big deal but best to be replaced at your next service, or just buy 5ltr ready mix pink coolant and change it yourself. Honestly I think these examples shows how dealers who should be the best place to service your car are actually not. , and actions like that easily bring problems in the future.7 points

Lol I missed on this one. All these petrol overfilled tanks are simply a myths , at least on our cars made MY 2000-> . In London there are some garages located on hills, such a big one that when you fill up you can get your petrol tank and filler neck full , plus some fuel getting out of the car on the floor, but then when drive off you have one bar less , because you actually had not filled up full but because the car was parked on incline the petrol got out and even the pump didn’t clicked and stopped. I don’t know why it is allowed to have petrol stations build on not level ground?! Happens few times to me at the same place. Shell on A406 near Neasden north west London. I had been doing rounds after first click for many years, three full fill ups per week and never had any problems on any car. The first bar down usually happens at aroma 60 miles in my Auris hybrid, and I usually refill when below half or 1/3 petrol remained, once driven below 0 miles around 20-30 miles in negative, but that is not important. More important is that my car is 13.5 years old with 278000 miles and never had anything replaced on the fuel system except a recall on the filler tube done by Toyota back in 2016. So far everything is original and still works as day one.7 points

The tyre labelling for noise is for external noise and the impact on the surrounding environment - so may not relate well to noise heard within the car.7 points

I took the RAV4 to a local transmission specialist (Quantum Transmissions) - I highly recommend. As soon as I started the car up, he said "yep, that's gearbox is low on oil". I went off, filled it back up, did the level check again and problem gone. So, it seems that it has either leaked, or someone has not filled it correctly in the past, and when I've put back in what came out and checked the levels, I've not done it correctly. Who knows. Ultimately, all is now well and I'm back with a big smile on my face once again. I was very worried for a bit there! To add even further reassurance to everyone reading this, he did also say that it has been a long time since he had to do anything with a Toyota gearbox, I take that as a good sign! For reference to anyone else - about 2.3L came out of the box on a cold drain, so I overfilled slightly and checked the level. However, I clearly did this wrong because when I did the drain some came out frothy which was explained to me that it has air in it, so another sign that it was too low. I added another 2L so all in all the car has had just short of 5L back in, and unsurprisingly it now appears to be happy. Massive thanks again to Quantum Transmissions in Doncaster!7 points

I went back to the dealer today about the replacement head unit which was fitted whilst they were changing the battery. Several people tried to sort it but they couldn't get the myt services working so I asked if the unit had been registered and no one knew if it needed it, they brought out the mechanic who fitted it and I asked him the same question he said it should have been but I will check. He came back 10 mins later and said it's now registered and he then logged in on the unit so all is now sorted.7 points

Lead acid batteries aren't designed to go flat, they never fully recover from it. So, if it's happened on more than one occasion, it probably needs replacing. Think of a flat battery as a cardiac arrest and the jump starter as a defilbrillator. You might be able to revive it, but it will never return to 100% of it's former health.7 points

Toyota hybrids are way better and more efficient than any other hybrid system available currently. The Hyundai hybrid system it’s not as efficient as it shows on the dashboard on real world plus they does not drive as good and in a long run they are time bombs with expensive clutch £3000+ that will fail similarly to vw dsg transmissions, not if but when? For me it’s Toyota. 👍7 points

Ms Sarah Finch challenged Surrey County Council, on behalf of Weald Action Group, and added more uncertainty to the UK’s independence on energy. The Supreme Court judges ruled on a three-to-two majority in favour of the action. So Finch, her lawyers and the judges (a handful of trouble makers) have created a situation that may adversely affect some 60 million UK subjects and, in the long term, increase the risks of regular power outages. ”I am absolutely over the moon to have won this important case”, says Finch. Well, bully for her! With this “important case” being unlikely to have any measurable effect on global warming, the results on our own ability to generate our energy independent of other countries WILL have a measurable effect. Finch obviously hasn’t considered (or doesn’t care) about the hundreds of patients who rely on electrically-powered, home-based life support equipment, where a power outage can have life-threatening occurrences. Also, the products from oil are not limited to energy production - they involve substances for the treatment of medical conditions, some of which are critical in supporting life, and shortages in these areas could mean people may die unnecessarily. Our government must curb these activists and their fee-grabbing lawyers, and make the UK operate for the benefit of the many - not the narrow-minded few.6 points

A quick update... Had a bit of a breakthrough yesterday in terms of consumption and trying to decide whether the 130 drivetrain really does make a difference over the older Red Baron in terms of fuel consumption. Well judging by results so far, I would assert that it does... Here's how Red Baron looked when it bowed out... ...and bear in mind that that is over 63 neck to neck fillups Here is how Blue Demon is looking today after yesterday's awesome fillup! ...and I can honestly say that my driving habits and style of driving haven't changed at all from one vehicle to the next; especially on long runs of ~200 mile round trips. I know it's only over 8 fillups for the Demon compared to 63 for the Baron but nevertheless, I think that the figures are starting to speak for themselves... Well pleased and my mileage costs have already dropped a penny a mile so far...6 points

I think the warning is deliberately scary as some people will ignore polite gentle warnings then try to sue when the car runs out of fuel and leaves them stranded because they forgot about the warning which they will no doubt claim wasn't prominent enough or something.6 points

@Agent Orange yeah it was a big hit to take all at once, I actually went to the garage with a list from the pre MOT done at a different garage yesterday. I don't know why but I felt something was a miss with the pre MOT garage. When I spoke to the mechanic today I explained my concerns, especially the axle mount welding. The mechanic then put the car on the lift and looked showing me both rear axle mounts and said they were fine and required nothing other than a good wire brushing and if I felt like it paint them with anti rust and a rust preventing Paint over the summer. He then did a very very thorough inspection. My instruction was actually any repairs required for an entirely clean MOT, no advisories at all. My reason being, if I know everything is done I can continue to maintain it appropriately and not allow it to fall into such a state again. Yes it uncovered some more issues the most concerning were the missing adjustments from both rear brakes and retaining springs from the front pads. The discs were acceptable but I just opted for new so I now know I have new pads, new disks, new pins and bushes and new tyres. That's pretty much the front corners covered as the springs and dampeners looked rather new. The battery was weak so replaced. Full service was done, the plugs were very old and tired, the oil was black and the air filter was horrendous. The brake pipes were badly corroded on one side so I just said do it all front to back both sides. I knew I had an oil leak but couldn't establish where from. The mechanic said it was the rocker gasket which I thought was going to be a huge job but I was told not to worry he can do it. Everything was started at 9:30am and I had the car back by 4pm. It drives like a totally different car to the one I took this morning. I have also discovered that using the mmt in manual mode is awesome. For getting E + & - is how to drive the mmt....... Wow sorry, that's a novel not a reply 😂6 points

Well, after Mazda Motors UK (MMUK) couldn't find my first complaint email (it ended up in their suspicious bin and was deleted) they acknowledged that they now had the second one. Long story short, Burrows Mazda York, at their cost, have been instructed by MMUK to change the oil and filter. I get the impression this dealer have had a rollicking by MMUK especially as a "Mazda-trained" technician wasn't aware were to look up the tyre pressures and tried to find then on some Mazda database. We all know the cold pressures are located on the sticker on the drivers side B pillar. Technician decided 41psi in the front and 38psi in the rears was probably right. They should be 32/29 (f/r) on the Mazda2 Hybrid running on 16s. Burrows Mazda York know I'm going to inspect the intact oil bottle before it's dispensed into the car. Hopefully, the Mazda-trained technicians know how to change the oil and filter. MMUK are also contacting each dealer to advise of the correct servicing procedure for a Mazda2 Hybrid, especially the oil grade. I got on really well with Burrows but the last / first service has left a sour taste in my mouth and I have questioned their ability to service cars correctly. My name is probably now blackballed as I got MMUK involved. Oh dear, never mind. 😁6 points

Left my job, so had to give back my BZ4X Pure. Very sad to see it go - was a lovely car to drive & I will miss it. The list below are the annoyances that Toyota could sort. For many people, Im sure most of these wont be an issue & that my username really needs to be princess&thepea Initial range - 330 miles. Reality in winter was half that. Settled on around 240 miles in spring. The industry needs to be made to get real about a realistic range in their marketing literature £40k for this car? Ouch! For long journies, the journey became a much nicer event as we would plan a stop somewhere where there's a fast charger & somewhere nearby for a decent lunch/stop! Found some brilliant pubs doing this & I loved the fact that it forced you to put some effort into finding somewhere nice to take a break, instead of that desire to get to your destination as quickly as possible No rear windscreen wiper. My rear windscreen was always smeared & it definitely needs a rear wiper Seats don't have much depth & had to raise my seat significantly as am 6ft1 & long legs. This meant getting in I would always be hitting my head on roof door. Especially true of the rear seat - lots of legroom but little support for people with long legs Great infotainment system but No Android Auto. Tried many 3rd party options but none worked continually, so had to settle with small right angled USB cable. They really need to sort this along with the phone holder. Infotainment would frequently log out of Toyota website & require you to rekey the password (which due to security settings has to be alpha numerics & a character). So meant having to pull over or put up with a nagware warning screen reappearing while driving which is very distracting. I think maybe this might have happened when starting the vehicle with no mobile signal, but cant be sure 1 foot pedal driving - tried & decided I didn't like Phone holder too small for a larger phone connected to USB & being able to close the drawer. Thankfully I have a pixel 6 which is small footprint Don't like the black shiny finish inside - scratches too easily & constantly has fingerprints all over it! Centre armrest comfortable, but door armrests need more padding & were uncomfortable on long journies Couldn't turn off rear seat belt alarms - if you put anything of weight on backseat then you would have to use seatbelts as well! Accept this might be legislation forcing this, but there should be ability for this to be disabled? Rear parcel "shelf" is rubbish & there are massive gaps everywhere. Skoda have a much better cassette type system. Big boot, but lack of boot storage options - would be nice to have a couple of removable dividers to create a space to put 1 or 2 shopping bags by the wheel arches Connecting the charger up sometimes resulted in charger not being connected - there is clearly an issue with the connector/cable provided & been reported elsewhere on here No proper storage place for charging cable. I'd love to see them make space in the bonnet for the type 2 connector cable, as not all charging points have installed charging cables. Under boot is not really an option when you have lots of luggage Extremely rough ride on country roads - feeling every single bump. Seemed to be fine around town & on motorways. Windows let in a lot of noise - I know its not a Lexus, but it did feel noisy at times. Dashboard creaks & squeaks after a couple of months. As I knew I was returning the car, I didn't bother getting sorted, but it became an annoyance on long journies. Bottle holders in doors are just moulded plastic, so bottles would rattle. Better would be a softer plastic, or with a rubber coating etc like other vehicles. My 10 year old Octavia had better drinks holders No glove box & no tidy storage options! The bottom console area feels like a waste how its designed & I didn't use it often! Adaptive Cruise Control worked well - as did lane assist. However, the lane assist warning was poor. I would have both hands on steering wheel & no need to make corrections on motorways, yet it felt obliged to force me to make a correction & if I didn't would turn off the lane assist which is likely more of a risk! Sign recognition for speed was very hit & miss. I don't know what its like in other cars, but I found it could be very misleading & I doubt a police officer/court would accept that as a reason for speeding Rear camera was great for basic car. Id like to see it have a front camera as well, along with remote view (handy for parking in car parks to see when a charging bay becomes empty!) Steering felt solid. Got used to how it covers up the console dashboard Aircon worked well - remote aircon great using keyfob. But disappointing it kicks off immediately you unlock the car! Hubcaps poorly fitted from factory, trying to put air in tyres was very hard to do! Using app to set climate control would always fail in the mornings - would try 3/4 times & end up resorting to using keyfob. App overall is poor, would frequently log out or unable to connect to car. Could never get the overnight charging continually working with Octopus & myenergi v2. Each time we had been away & I tried to set it to only charge overnight it would fail, so would end up waiting up til 11.30 pm to manually charge! This is likely to be a fault/issue with the charger not the car Would I get another? Maybe, but think I would definitely try out the competition next time. Theyve got a lot right with the BZ4X, but there's room for tweaking! Appreciated all the support & guidance I received on the forum - thank you.6 points

I wish governments would realize that cars are not one-size-fits-all - Diesel still has its place and is unrivaled for long distance or heavy loads. Petrol is probably the most general purpose, but benefits massively from well-engineered hybridization, and EVs do well in short-distance urban runs, esp. when you can charge at home. They already made the mistake of trying to get everyone into diesel cars under the false pretense that they're 'green' when anyone with half a brain could see they're not, and they just keep compounding the error, creating even more pollution by making people change cars unnecessarily again!6 points
