Toyota Carina II 1.6GL, 38000 miles - help with market valuehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221352-toyota-carina-ii-16gl-38000-miles-help-with-market-value/ Hi there,
I'm wondering if someone can help.

I have a Carina II 1.6GL which has been in a garage for the past 10 years. The car has a full service history and was mostly serviced by a Toyota dealership, then for 3 or 4 years it was serviced & MOTd by a local garage (the Toyota dealership was too far away for my Mum to manage) before being SORN in 2014.

Photos and videos of the car are here Toyota Carina II 1.6GL
The arches are not in good condition, but other than that I think the car is in OK condition.

Can anyone tell me what its market value might be?

Many thanks in advance.

Carina E drum brake problemhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220439-carina-e-drum-brake-problem/ Hello.

Im having a problem with my carina E -97 2.0 right rear drum brake as it doesnt have much stopping force for either in pedal or handbrake.

Shoes seem fairly new. Drums show some wear.

Things I have tried so far: Adjusted shoe to drum clearance(Even tried to leave more cap to left side). Cleaned brake cylinders and confirmed that they work. Changed brake cylinders and drums from right to left. Changed rear brake lines from front to load sensing assy right/left for confirming that proportioning valve assy in front works. Bleeded brakes after every phase.

Fault always stays on right side. I was wandering if anyone here has experienced this or has any tips for how to proceed?.

I ordered new drums, shoes and rubber brake lines but dont think problem is in those parts.

Car was testamented to me and my friend just got a job. Im trying to get it thru inspection so she doesnt have to pedal 20km with bicycle to work. Sorry for bad english as its not my native language.

part requiredhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219842-part-required/ I have a 1992 Carina E XLI  and am looking for a drivers 4 way electric window switch. The car was registered during May 1992 and it seems the switch was changed for 1993. (I have already tried a 1993 part and it does not work, (it operates the drivers window and the door lock only). If anybody has one and they want to sell it, please get in touch.

Throttle body problemhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219522-throttle-body-problem/ Has anyone had a similar problem with a 1995 Celica 7afe? Recently, the gas pedal went to the floor and full throttle was applied. I disassembled and cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve. Upon reassembly, there is an incident where the gas pedal has half of its range as slack, the cable seems too long but it works, and when the car is started, there is gas to the floor. Additionally, the throttle body does not close completely.

Toyota Carina E GLI 1.6 79kW o2 sensorhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219315-toyota-carina-e-gli-16-79kw-o2-sensor/ Hello guys i own the above mentioned car and my o2 sensor finally gave up.

I searched everywhere in my country for the original denso 89463-20060 part but sadly no one has one that doesnt cost more than the car itself.

Since the engine is lean burn i was wondering if anyone has any information about which o2 sensors could go into this car?

Maybe which part numbers are accepted so i can find something aftermarket.

Mechanic installed some sensor right now and the amount of smoke coming out of the car is insane together with the check engine light.

Thanks for reading!

Winter Starting Issueshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219162-winter-starting-issues/ Hello,

For the last few winters after heavy rain the Carina E will refuse to start, it cranks but will not fire up. I have checked and there is no spark when cranking. This correlates with the engine managment light not illuminating on ignition when it won't start. When the weather warms up, the warning light illuminates with the ignition on and the car will start again and runs sweet as anything through until next winter.

Has anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking water must be getting under the bonnet somehow and maybe getting the ECU wet? The slight annoyance is the last 3 years when we've got it towed to the garage as soon as it's with them it starts straight away so they have not had any cause to investigate.

I appreciate you reading this and look forward to any light anybody can shed on the subject.

Japan-made Carina ehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/218991-japan-made-carina-e/ Hi!

I have 1995 Carina e wagon. I'm curious about my cars history or reason for why it is Japanese. I believe all Carina e after 1993 should be made in the uk, however my cars VIN starts with JT. Why is that?

Thanks in advance!

Carina E 1.8 7AFE : tingling sound in air intake manifoldhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/217328-carina-e-18-7afe-tingling-sound-in-air-intake-manifold/ Our 1997 Carina E 1.8 with 7AFE lately had a tingling sound in the area of the intake manifold when the engine was cold.  That suddenly disappeared but now whe have the orange engine light on the dashboard and when reading it out : code 21 Oxygen sensor...

Where is this sensor located or is it the same as the MAP sensor?

What can cause this tingling sound? (some are speaking of a certain type of valves in the intake manifold)

Would the intake manifolf of a Celica with 7AFE fit and solve this?

In the meantime we are not using the car but we do need it. (only 100.000 km)

Thanks already

Carina E - ULEZ - Anyone have the Certificate of Conformity?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/215686-carina-e-ulez-anyone-have-the-certificate-of-conformity/ I have a Toyota Carina E GS 5 Door 1.8 1997 and it does not comply with the London ULEZ according to TFL. I may now have to scrap it. However, does anyone have the Certificate of Conformity that the vehicle would have had from Toyota showing the emissions for this vehicle. I am specifically interested in the Nox emission because if it is less than Nox <0.08g/km I can apply for an exemption.

I look forward to a quick reply as the ULEZ is being introduced in outer London in the next couple of weeks.

Model: Toyota Carina E GS 5 Door 1.8
First Registration: 04/03/1997
VIN: SB164ABK10E067889

Engine Type: 7A-FE petrol

tailgate gas struts do not work on my 1991 carina 2 liftbackhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/201070-tailgate-gas-struts-do-not-work-on-my-1991-carina-2-liftback/ my name is Patrik, living in Belgium nearby Antwerp 🙂

The tailgate gas struts aren't able to keep my car trunk open

These gas strusts seem to be some kind of unique Toyota part made in one piece with a small plate of steel to be attached to the car on both sides of the strut ...

Therefore it looks like they can only be replaced by an original Toyota part ...?!?

I'm looking since some time to find replacements but I'm not able to find them

Somebody can help me with these? someone can repair them? Where to find a replacement? ...

My Carina Journeyhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/209459-my-carina-journey/ Hey there!

Still relatively new here, but I wanted to show you my Carina. It's a 1.6 base Hi-life with a 5 speed manual and base 4AF.

In a bit of a sad state at the moment due to her sitting outside for about 7 months in a field. Currently sitting at 114,490 miles, she runs well if feeling a bit worn.

Please ignore the rust, incorrect Battery, weird idling sound, Poorly fitted airfilter cover, crimped hoses and oil leaks

Toyota Carina E 1.6 1996 Blinkers and hazard light works for one relay flash then they stop goinghttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/201962-toyota-carina-e-16-1996-blinkers-and-hazard-light-works-for-one-relay-flash-then-they-stop-going/ so yes i have i blinkers issue when i use the turn signal i sometimes get the blinkers to work like normal sometimes i get one blink and other times i get nothing. when i leave the blinker or the hazard on it sometimes starts working for a few blinks before stopping again.

i can hear the relay clicking when it is working and i have changed the relay once to with no real difference. unless i might have gotten an faulty aftermarket relay.

so yeah anyone got any clue what might be the issue?

Carina Kudos Estatehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/214844-carina-kudos-estate/ Hi and thanks for allowing me to join, I have a 1993 Carina E Sports wagon, I bought it from a chap that bought it new at Colley Motors Cwmbran in 1993!! I have owned it for a while now and have fitted new Monroe gas shocks all around with 30% uprated springs, its had a new cambelt, oil and filters and a set of 16" alloy wheels/tyres, we have recently taken it on a 1700 mile tour of the Lake District for the RS Lakes Tour then on to Hot Rods and Hills, it never missed a beat including a cross country run over to Yorkshire for a pic in front of Scripps garage. My question is, does any one know the spring rates for a sports wagon as the rear springs are still a little on the soft side and is there any way to glean a few more bhp with out reverting to an engine swap? Lastly I have been told that the Carina E floor pan is the same as a Celica Gen 6 and that gen 6 brakes will bolt straight in to the Carina caliper brackets? I also own a series 1 Lexus GS300 but since owning the Carina its not being used!!

you looking to get some high quality coilovers from ohlinshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/214809-you-looking-to-get-some-high-quality-coilovers-from-ohlins/ ive been talking with a company that can  create custom ohlins coilovers, and if i can find and guarantee those 5 are paying up. the price of the setup goes from  near £6,000  to around £2,500

my model is the cdx e ( none gti), however i have suggested that its possible to create the kit, where by the bottom section is simply swapped when its ordered.

"Assuming the weights, motions ratios, top and lower mounts are the same, we should be able to cater for both with one kit and length adjustment"
