drivers door mirror issue

My drivers door mirror seems to have a mind of it own, it will sometimes open fully, sometimes partially and sometimes not at all.  The issue here then is though the passenger mirror operates normally, if has opened and is now to  be closed the drivers will also try and close whilst already in the closed position (if that makes sense!)

I'd like to dismantle it and it looks like it can be removed from behind the door card.  Thereafter, what's the best way to get to the mechanism and are there any limit switches etc that can be accessed?  On older cars you could just pop off the mirror to get to the drive motors.

It's been smacked at some point, no doubt its hipster owner not paying attention while vaping and on the phone 🙃 😉

or she needs a bit of lube - window down, fold the mirror in and give it a push inwards
