It is similar like a choke for a carburettor,I can pull it out and then back in.
So far it seems to do nothing at all.
I looked into the manual and that location should be for extra features (like heated seat etc) but I still can't find what it does.
It is a 1998 T22 (4AFE) (I think made in UK).

Losing power multiple times per journeyhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221843-losing-power-multiple-times-per-journey/ Morning all, apologies if this has been covered before but I searched the data base and couldn't find anything.

I have an Avensis 2.2 T180 2007.

Problem I have is when driving down the motorway the car loses all power via the throttle and the usual lights come on.

The only way I can 'fix' it is by turning the ignition on and off again, and this resets the car and it runs properly again for about a mile or so, then same again. (not very safe at 70mph!)

I noticed that when this issue occurs, there literally is no power. Unlike when the EGR valve sticks it goes into limp mode and there is a little bit of response from the engine to keep you going in some form or another.

The EGR valve is clean and other than this new issue, it runs pretty well.

I wondered if the throttle body is sticking or something like that.

Many thanks for your time

Dipped Headlights Not Workinghttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/125936-dipped-headlights-not-working/Hi, I have a 2004 avensis Tourer 1.8 and both dipped headlights have suddenly stopped working, sidelights and main beam are fine, any obvious ideas such as fuses and relay (please help on the specific location of these as have not found them yet!!) before I remove the skin off my knuckles inspecting the bulbs!

Toyota Avensis added cruise controller doesnt workhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221861-toyota-avensis-added-cruise-controller-doesnt-work/ I bought a cruise control stick from a scrapyard; it had been in another Toyota Avensis. The steering wheel didn’t have a stick previously, so I attached it using connectors that fit directly in place of the previous wire. I had to drill a hole in the steering wheel’s plastic to accommodate the stick.

However, now when I press the cruise control button, the light doesn’t come on in the dashboard, and the cruise control doesn’t work. There’s a spot for the light on the dashboard in the left corner, where the word “Cruise” could illuminate. Does anyone know if there’s a separate fuse for this, or is the intelligence needed for cruise control missing entirely? Or do I need to connect additional wires somewhere?

If this intelligent module is entirely missing, where could I check its location in this type of car to verify whether this feature is absent?

Since the car has electronic throttle control, there are no cables going from the accelerator pedal anywhere.

Avensis as first car?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221775-avensis-as-first-car/ Before I start, I am aware it says my car is a t22 avensis, but I haven't actually bought one but have found one which I was planning to buy as a first car (I'm 20 years old). I am sorry if this is against the rules on he forum but I desperately need some advice from people better educated on this topic.

So I found a 2003 t22 vermont avensis with the 1.8 VVT-i engine with only 65k miles! After doing some research, I've come across the fact that the engine in this, the 1ZZ-FE, is a troubled engine since it suffers from the infamous oil consumption issues. I really like the car from what I've seen and thought that with the low insurance, this would be a great first car for me.

Obviously, I will be going for a viewing in 2 days time, but wanted some advice. Is it worth going to see the car if this oil issue is likely to be present? I will check for service history and whether or not the engine was taken back to Toyota.

Should I avoid the risk and go for another car (did find a 08 Swift 1.5 at a similar price, sorry not a Toyota)?

Avensis 2003 2.0 D4D struggling to start problem.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221793-avensis-2003-20-d4d-struggling-to-start-problem/ Hello everyone from greece! I have a problem with my avensis t25 with cdt250 diesel engine. When the engine stops running for about 4 hours or longer it struggles to start. If i first pump the diesel filter and then trying to start the engine it starts normally. If i dont do this its cranking for about 10 times and then starts. That means tha the fuel returns back to the tank. I have changed the suction control valve with a new denso but nothing changed. I have changed also the filter base with a new one and also the problem didnt fix. I cheched also for a broken fuel tank cap but its not the problem either. Also i chech for the common rail with an obd tester and it seems to work perfectly fine as it instantaneously increase the fuel pressure. It may be the diesel pump but i havent noticed any strange thing with it. Does anyone had the same or similar problem?

Thanks for your time guys!!!

Toyota Avensis 4D4 engine problemhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219347-toyota-avensis-4d4-engine-problem/ I am writing here because I have a problem with the Toyota Avensis 4D4 2004 engine. In the engine, the force is lost. From time to time, going away from the spot in 1st gear is very difficult. When the revolutions reach about 2600 rpm, the engine has the power when you let the throttle and press it again, the force is gone again. Usually with a cold engine, the car works well, but after reaching the working remit, problems begin to arise. The engine begins to consume two or three times more fuel, and the smell of fuel is felt in the cabin.

Another problem is that when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal, the revolutions drop below 700rmp and the engine dies out or tries to go back over about 800-1200rmp.

The engine has received brand new original common rail injectors and an air reader, but the problem has not been solved.

Avensis D4D 2001 fuel pump failurehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221810-avensis-d4d-2001-fuel-pump-failure/ Hi guys, my dad's car has been failing for some time now, the car is starting nice always, it drives on low speeds ,but when rpm higher +2500 the car just won't accelerate anymore than that, on hills it would drive like a car without turbo, there's a yellow engine failure light on the dashboard. I friend put it on scanner and it shows fuel pump issue, so he directly told me is the injection fuel pump that needs to be replaced. I have read about SCV valves that might need some cleaning, this car never had anything like that done before, so is there any chance that these valves might be wrong and it would indicate fuel pump failure? Or anything else ? Thanks

Car door jammedhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221750-car-door-jammed/ Hi,

My mother in law was closing the back passenger door and the seat belt seemed to get stuck on impact. But after I got home, the door wouldn't open (trying from the insides and outside).

Unfortunately, due to other things going on, I left it until today to try and prise and open. The seat belt came out unaffected which shocked me as I thought that has got jammed in the handle but still the door is not opening. I assume something has happened in the latch where the handle is to prevent it from opening?

I know I will have to take to a garage but any indications of what it could be would be helpful.

In addition to the delay (my fault, which I hold my hands up. Can't blame the mil for that), the car Battery has gone as it would have been alerting that a door was open. I'm hesitant to try to manually lock it incase it doesn't open up! Praying it's not damaged my Battery permanently as I had a new one put in a few years ago.

Part of this is mil fault and mostly mine as I'm clueless on cars and stick my head in the sand so any informative advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Avensis Head Unit Touch and go 2https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221642-avensis-head-unit-touch-and-go-2/ Hello,

I was wondering if anyone else has suffered this issue?

My Touch 2 go (head unit) system keeps rebooting itself and will eventually come on by won't see any DAB stations or any other sources like FM or Ipod. I can see the IPOD and it shows playing but no sound comes out. After a while the system may reboot itself again and it has the same faults. This seems to happen quiet alot but not all the time. Other days it works perfectly. The Map has been updated to the latest software version to see if that would help but unfortunately not.

Lately I have noticed that the car is going into limp mode. I had it read by the Anwb, and they indicated that the commorail pressure is too high. Occasionally the engine also turns off. What will be the cause? Anwb technician indicated that it might be due to the sensors.

Fuel leak on 1AZ-FSE T25https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220068-fuel-leak-on-1az-fse-t25/ Hello.

I have a curious fuel leak that I am trying to figure out on my brother in laws car. It is visible from underneath the car and it seems to be dripping from around the area near cylinder 1, but it is very hard to locate exactly where it comes from with the intake manifold mounted. I can not find any visible leaks from the engine bay. It leaks quite a lot, 1 drop each second when the car is running on idle and it needs to run for a minute before the leak starts.

My first assumption was the injector seal to the fuel rail. So I removed the rail and inspected the O-rings. They had no visible cracks or damages. So I cleaned the seal surface on the fuel rail, put everything back together and found that the problem was solved. The car was driven for a couple of days with no fuel leak until the fuel leak suddenly started again. He says that the leak is intermittent.

I read fault codes P0175 (system too rich bank 2) and P0136 (O2 sensor circuit bank 1 sensor 2). All the O2 sensors have very recently been tested, measured and they are OK.

Does anybody have any idea what could cause this? I have been searching for an answer online for several hours over a couple of days now, but do not seem to find anything that fits these symptoms. Can the external leak be connected to the too rich code and the O2 sensor and if so how? Can an injector be leaking externally and internally at the same time intermittently? And would this be caused by the injector itself or other things in the fuel system? Can the fuel relief valve on the fuel rail be causing the system to get too high pressure so that it blows the fuel out of the seals? If the fuel pulsations damper was leaking this should have been visible from the engine bay, although it is possible that I missed it. But would a leak on the pulsation damper fit the description of the issue?

Also, the starter will need to be turned for a bit longer than usual for the car to start after this problem occurred. Once it starts the engine runs fine.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Check precrash safety and check parking brake.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221677-check-precrash-safety-and-check-parking-brake/ Hi everyone. I have a 2016 Toyota Avensis 1.8 petrol VVT-i.

When driving from work the other day my car suddenly got an error message: Check precrash safety and check parking brake.

The car does not respond when giving gas and will slowly stop. Ignition is on. Then I stop the car and wait 10-15 mins.

Will start it again and sometimes the error is gone but other times a need to stop it again.

When the error is gone I can drive the car normally again.

This has now happend 3 times this year. Anyone else here who has experienced this problem?

Is this a software problem. What do you think?

<![CDATA[Avensis T3 1800 Hatchback 2003 - Tailgate OPEN & lock locked]]>https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221688-avensis-t3-1800-hatchback-2003-tailgate-open-lock-locked/ Hi, there
I have an Avensis T3 1800 Hatchback, 2003.
The lock on tailgate was a bit uncertain when trying to open it from outside. Seemed to unlock with central locking but when gripping the tailgate to pull it open, not always good. So with the tailgate open, I used a screwdriver to move the locking lever across, thinking it needed some to+fro to loosen something. But it remained in the lock position and it is stuck in the locked position with the tailgate ajar. Tried lock+unlock with central locking. Tried using key on the doors to do the central locking, but that tailgate lock is not moving. And I cannot close the tailgate 😞

I have looked at the tailgate lock from inside but there seems no obvious way to proceed. Is that plastic thing a cover that comes off with a pull? And then using a screwdriver can I get the lever back to its open position? And hopefully then return things to how it was before?

Check Parking Brake Warninghttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221623-check-parking-brake-warning/ Check Parking Brake Warning

Car: Avensis T270 2013.

1. Background:

Rear Left disc was making a pad wearing noise.

I checked the pads, and they had uneven wear.

I noticed the calliper piston seal was deteriorated and seized.

2. Attempt to fix:

I replaced the pads, disc and bought a new calliper.

To install the calliper I did the following steps:

1: Put vehicle into manual parking mode by holding the parking button for 5 seconds to release the handbrake

2: Removed the old calliper from the brake hose and EPB handbrake

3: Install the new calliper attaching it to the brake hose and EPB handbrake

4: No need to rewind calliper due to already done by manufacturer and aligned it the brake pad

5: Assemble everything else and bleed the brakes

3. Issue:

As soon I turned the car on it was still in manual mode.

I turned it to auto mode and it applied the EPB

A warning light came on saying 'Release Parking Brake'

After releasing it gave another warning 'Check Parking Brake'

4. Attempts to diagnose:

-I took the wheel off to visually watch the EBP mechanism:

When the parking brake is applied it seems to operate as expected by pulling the cable inwards - but I get a Release Parking Brake' warning.

When the parking brake is released, it seems to operate as expected by extending the cable - but the extending process is prolonged and its mechanical actuation sound can be heard for up to 10 seconds as it continues to extend - then I get a 'Check Parking Brake' warning

-I decided to unplug the Battery for 24 hours to allow for a computer reset-

This resulted in me successfully:

Turning off the manual mode

Appling the handbrake without the 'Release Parking Brake'

Accelerating for it to successfully disengage automatically

Took it for a test drive

However, when I replied the EBP manually it came back with the 'Check Parking Brake' warning and a mechanical actuation sound can be heard for up to 10 seconds

Does anyone have any ideas or previous experience on what this could be and the potential fix? Thanks

Cheap Avensis Estate ?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221042-cheap-avensis-estate/ I currently have a VW Passat B5 diesel estate which is great. 120k miles , FSH, 12 Months MOT etc ( only paid £1500 ! ) BUT as we are now only going to do about 4k miles a year I want to switch to a petrol and I've always loved the avensis ( however boring people think it is ).

Do you think I could get a good petrol avensis estate for less than £3k ?

2013 2.0d4d Avensis estate with 300k. What to look out for?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221639-2013-20d4d-avensis-estate-with-300k-what-to-look-out-for/ Hi all,

Looking for a new car.

Budget is max 7k. (Not much by today's standards)

Would love an Avensis estate, but there is not many unfortunately around here(Ireland) in my budget.

Found a private one, that is for 5k.

But mileage is 300k KMs.

Clutch apparently been changed .

Anything else to look out for with that mileage?

Turbo, injectors, dpf? Any handy way to check/test these out when inspecting?

Or is 5k for a 300k car mad money?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.
