carb cleaner/brake clean works just as well for vac leaks

15% is within range not an issue, it's just a symptom, not a cause

Yes because if LTFT is over 25%+ that triggers a P0171 Lean Bank 1 code. I know 1st hand what that is about from another car I had. That was a battle to find the cause in the end

So I've removed the valve cover today and change the gasket as it was leaking oil onto the spark plug wells. I had the opportunity to check the engine condition while I was there. Very clean engine but I knew this because I service my car regularly with quality oil so I knew it was clean. The chain is tight and it appears that the timing marks are aligned the gold plates on the chain lined up with the timing marks on the camshaft and vvt pulley though I didn't get a picture of this. I took some pictures of my engine when I took my valve cover off.

Looks like my P1346 lies with the ocv circuit wiring somewhere. I'll keep looking....

The VVT gear stays in time with the chain it's the cam that advances or retards through oil pressure

maybe the OCV has mechanically failed but tests fine

Certainly possible. Though when I remove the connector from the car but leave the ocv in situ and go for a drive, my car severely loses power and the code for the ocv circuit pops up. Once I reconnect the ocv clear the DTC codes and go for another drive, the performance is restored but P1346 comes back after an engine restart or 2

Surely this will mean my ocv is working? Was thinking about getting a BluePrint ocv as they are a really good brand, OEM spec. Maybe that's what I'm missing?

it's a slow-acting OCV or it's the VVT Pulley aka phaser

silly question do you have the pump click off when filling with fuel?

VVT pulley sounds like £££...... Wow! That's so interesting and a brilliant read! I had absolutely no idea the vvt worked like that. Very fascinating stuff. Thanks for this information.

Well I usually put about £15 worth or 10L in my car for work. I try not to let my car go below the 2nd last notch in the fuel gage from empy, but, if I'm going long distances, I'll full up till the pump clicks, yeah.

Might not be related but I have also noticed that now the weather is warmer and the passenger's window is opened as my Wife gets travel sick, I can smell a whiff of fuel in the car. Especially going up a steep hill, but if I shut all windows, it goes away. If I open my window only, no smell, only if the passenger window is opened and going up steep hills. I haven't noticed any fuel leaks on floor or anyway under the car or on the engine bay. I'll be monitoring it closely as I don't like the thought of fuel smells coming in the car 😟
