RSA alerts when car is well below speed limit

Good morning,

I have had my 2022 Aygo X Exclusive for 10 days and have sussed out all of the settings, bleeps and warnings.

One thing that is annoying me is that even if I am well under the speed limit the RSA symbol turns red and bleeps at me.  I know it isn’t always 100% accurate but  for example exiting a roundabout onto a 50 mph road this morning the alert turned red and bleeped at me even though I was only traveling at 35mph.  The symbol stayed red for ages even when I have increased my speed to just under 50mph.

is this normal?

Thank you

make sure RSA is set to miles and not KM, the Yaris had this issue where it would default to KM

I think it perfectly 'abnormal' as it can either pick up the wrong sign or fail to pick up the right one.

We, as individuals,  must get on the habit of complaining via FixMyStreet until the responsible councils fix the signs properly.

Thank you. I didn’t think to check that.  I know it was set to mph but I will check to see if it has changed.

You may find it still set to mph but, if it’s anything like the system in the Yaris, it is still (randomly) using kph.

So your 35 mph equates to 56 kmh so the systems says “you’re speeding “ !

My experience is it can randomly ‘fix’ itself when it feels like !!

Thank you.  Sounds like I might have to live with it😉

If the system is like the Yaris one it's 'normal' and nothing can be done about it unless Toyota stop pretending it's not a problem and tie the RSA to your units setting instead of its current auto mode.

The basic problem is the RSA will randomly interpret the signs as Kph instead of mph. Nobody knows why, although there is speculation if it sees signs on the right hand side it thinks they're kph but in my experience it hasn't been consistent and just seems random.

The fix on the Yaris Cross was - BE-00734T-TME it might be worth checking with your dealer if this will work on the Aygo X.

This happened in our Yaris on Friday last week. It detected the 30mph speed sign and then flashed to say I was over the limit, although I was only doing 18mph. Same thing happened when I was doing 24mph in a 40 zone.

I turned off the RSA, and then switched off the car. Restarted the car, and then switched on the RSA. This didn't help. However, the next day, everything was fine. RSA worked without any problems. I have no idea how, or why this happened.

The worst thing is this same system is being used with the speed limier/beeper they're implementing in the new models when it's already known it's utterly not fit for purpose :rolleyes1:

It's like there is just a checkbox that the car has to have these things but no official test or check that they actually need to work correctly!

Get your dealer to install - BE-00734T-TME, I had this on my current Yaris Cross, once this was done the system behaves itself most of the time, just the occasional glitch due to misread signs but significantly better than it was.  If it does glitch it sorts itself at the next sign, not perfect but 90% better.

Honestly, with the RSA, the first thing I do when I upgrade my car is silence that.

Any news on a fix for this? My 2022 Aygo X has the same issue :(

Also it seems to me to have an issue with our UK National Speed Limit sign which of course can be either 60mph or 70mph depending up the road type.

RSA seems to think it is always a 70 limit so it may only warn you if you are 10mph over the limit!

A benefit immediately would be to turn off the audible beeps.  The full handbook, explains how to disable beeps for speeding, i'm hoping this will be permanent.  Need to check tomorrow on different roads to my local lanes to see whether it's now beepless.  What i'm hoping is that I get only visual warnings, not audible ones.  Btw  - I observe speed limits always, but object to bongs and beeps distracting me when I accelerate gently from a 30 to a 40 zone.

I find the warning system to work incorrectly without hesitation and as good as constantly.

It has different causes to do like this.

It is, for example, in my feeling connected to the map of the factory routeplanner. It reacts to speed limits that are not accurate any more for years. F.e. temporary speed limits on the highway due to works while all signs are gone and the works ended a year ago.

I see it also happen often that the end of a 30 km/h zone is not recognized. It keeps on warning then even if I have already left the zone.

Also happens often when traffic rules end a 50 or 70 km/h speed limit zone but there is no sign to show this. There is a rule here f.e. that a speed limit is only valid until the next junction. So at the next crossing with any road the normal speed limit is valid again or there should be an other sign. The warning system does not seem to know this rule and that leads to warnings all the time.

All in all, it's rather worthless and only to be used with its limitations in mind.

See it as a guide function. It could sometimes be right but often it's not.

Nor any need to sign a speed limit change at a junction when NSL is in effect.

An example of what I mean is at Brackley where the A422 joins the A43. Both roads are NSL therefore there are no speed limit signs at the roundabout despite the fact the limit drops from 70 (A43 dual carriageway) to 60 (A422 single carriageway).

The worst thing i read about it was somebody in the EU was saying he felt sorry that the automatic limitation of the speed didn't get through, wasn't enforced in the EU law. He seems to think the highly intelligent systems know better.

What an idiot.

It would be life threatening if the car adapted the speed without possibility to overrule.

I would consider my car undriveable if it forced the speeds on me for which it wrongly warns now.

Indeed - If everyone involved in making that decision are regular drivers and could prove they never exceeded the speed limit by even 1mph/1kph in their entire lives then fair enough but we all know such a person does not exist which makes them hypocrites. I suspect a lot of such people involved in those decision don't even drive and either ride bicycles or get chauffeured around and thus, in my view, shouldn't have any say in the matter.

I've always said that major decisions should involve the people who it will affect most and not be up to some smeg pot sat in an ivory tower somewhere far removed.
