We’ve driven in to London today from Swansea as I’m doing the London to Brighton bike ride tomorrow.

First time we’ve ever used a Disklok on the RAV, especially as parking is on street!

I'm just along the road from you in Glasgow and my insurance has gone up from £720 to £1285. RAV4 PHEV MY22.

That's crazy.  Nothing else changed?  71 plate here was £570 now £582 on checking now.

Edit just ran it on gocompare forgot about them and tescoBank were £481 so actually cheaper than last year.

Mine is a HEV not PHEV but not sure why that would matter.

The PHEV is 300HP which will make a difference, but not that amount

Later RAV4s have a shield to help prevent this type of theft. It can also be fitted to older models.

We had a 63 auris and were paying 700 in kt3(renewed in February) -  currently paying 1300 for the 2020Rav4,

Cheers. Using comparethemarket I had few quotes at 500 from not known insurers/brokers with shady terms and astronomical excess. There was Aviva Zero at 490 in between but reading through negative reviews (https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.aviva.co.uk?sort=recency&stars=1) decided to avoid them. Surprisingly many (to many for my comfort) known insurers were not providing the quotes at all.

My current insurer AA got me a renewal price of 730, so I decided to contact them and negotiate. I said that this is too much comparing to the previous year (52% rise). I gave them new details as I moved outside London and they end up in a 595-610 range. I think it will be safer to get this offer from the devil I know instead of supply all the paperwork to the new company, who may cancel you without clear reason (as the cheapest ones like to do sometimes).

EDIT.

I am also surprised that the renewals from AA are the cheapest for me for the 3rd year in a row, even when consensus is to shop around and change the insurer every year.

My understanding of AA, from previous policies with them, is they are actually just brokers, like Hastings etc so your actual insurance is with a company you may not have heard of but doesn't mean its bad. So like any broker deals available to them change all the time, sometimes they can offer better, sometimes worse.

Hi All
New member here.
I'm looking to get into a Rav4 2014 CVT AWD in the next month (invincible Trim so it has a few toys).
We've narrowed our search down to a Rav4 as our current Kia Venga is just a little bit too small, and we need petrol as we only do around 3K a year and it has to be auto.
We did also shortlist a CRV but that is difficult for my wife to enter as the door opening, although on paper bigger, just doesn't work for my wife, whereas the Rav is no problem for her.

So my query is, having read through this whole thread, I can't seem to identify any post that describes what models are actually affected.

I think I've worked out that the Gen 5 are affected until around 2023 when Toyota appeared to get their act together and sort out the CAN bus. The retro fit metal blocking plates also seem to be available for Gen 5 with a little push from Toyota Customer Service when necessary.

But I'm sure there are some posts saying 2018 have been stolen by CAN bus injection which I'm guessing is the same electrics as my intended 2014 model as presumably the 2015 facelift was cosmetic? Or were these early Gen 5's?

The reason that I need to be clear on this aspect is because my wife is disabled and we often have various disabled aids in the car boot. Also I don't want to think my wife might be stranded without her disability aids if she is out on her own. She can still drive but it needs to be an auto.

I have done a sample insurance quote and that came back as £80 more than the Venga (£305 as against our current £225)  which suggests it isn't on insurers hit list (yet!)

If we go ahead with purchase, we will be getting and using a Stoplock (not needed on Venga as frankly they are not a nickable car, especially with the 4 speed auto which wouldn't pull skin off rice pudding!),  but can anyone say if the pre-facelift Rav Gen4 has a the CAN bus issue or was it not a problem until the Gen 5 builds?

gen 4 has no issues, the can bus attack is on the hybrid and not the Phev gen 5

there is a crossover between the gen4 and 5

Gen 4 up to 09/2019

early gen5 is from 11/2018

you should be fine with a gen4

I know they use different underwrites for different stuff, but mine is actually

I took an AA quote via a comparison site and it was Aviva  ( defaqto )

Ironically my previous year/ renewal was with Aviva  so ended up getting the same policy a lot of money cheaper
