VIENNA, Va. — March 31, 2023 — Leading e-commerce parcel carriers LaserShip, Inc. dba OnTrac Final Mile (“LaserShip”) and OnTrac Logistics, Inc. (“OnTrac Logistics”) announced today that the companies will be jointly marketed under the name “OnTrac” and launched a new brand identity. The companies’ extensive rebranding initiative, which includes a new name, logo, website, and visual identity, comes as a result of the 2021 transaction that placed LaserShip and OnTrac Logistics under shared ownership to form the first coast-to-coast partner of choice for last-mile e-commerce deliveries. Together, the companies’ complementary East and West Coast delivery footprints empower retailers to reach consumers in the country’s most populated regions with faster, more reliable home delivery at a lower cost.

“We are thrilled to announce that we have come together as OnTrac and release our new brand identity,” said Josh Dinneen, Chief Commercial Officer of OnTrac. “Uniting under a single brand further cements our role as a critical part of the e-commerce infrastructure and proven alternative to other national carriers. Retailers can look to OnTrac as a long-term partner that can help them gain a competitive advantage through faster delivery, lower operational costs, greater flexibility, and a nationwide scale. We are excited for what the future holds for OnTrac, as we continue to focus on providing industry-leading service to our customers.”

The new brand identity is rooted in the company’s shared strengths and values. By using the OnTrac name and infusing elements of the LaserShip visual identity, the new branding honors the company’s past, while providing a fresh look and feel that represents the future.

Since combining networks, OnTrac has launched a transcontinental delivery service to move packages from coast to coast in as little as 3 days, helping retailers reach 250 million consumers across 31 states and Washington, D.C. In 2023, OnTrac is pursuing further growth initiatives aimed at supporting its retail customers, including a network expansion to Texas in the urban megaregion of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio to reach an additional 19 million consumers. Once complete, retailers partnering with OnTrac will be able to reach approximately 80% of the U.S. population.

LaserShip/OnTrac Partners with Nashville General Hospital Foundation to Provide Hunger Relief to Tennesseans https://www.ontrac.com/lasership-ontrac-partners-with-nashville-general-hospital-foundation-to-provide-hunger-relief-to-tennesseans/ https://www.ontrac.com/lasership-ontrac-partners-with-nashville-general-hospital-foundation-to-provide-hunger-relief-to-tennesseans/#respond Tue, 25 Oct 2022 15:15:59 +0000 https://lasership.com/?p=88129 The company has delivered 600 meals and counting to Davidson County residents facing food insecurity.

Nashville, Tenn. — October 25, 2022 — Leading e-commerce parcel carrier LaserShip/OnTrac is partnering with Nashville General Hospital Foundation (NGHF) to provide hunger relief to individuals struggling with food insecurity in Davidson County. Through weekly delivery services, LaserShip/OnTrac has facilitated 600 food deliveries to recipients of NGHF’s Food Outreach Program since March and has helped the foundation reach an additional 20 households each week.

The partnership with NGHF is executed as part of LaserShip/OnTrac’s Time of Need initiative, through which the company provides in-kind services to local organizations within communities it operates that work in hunger relief, health improvement, and disaster recovery.

“Delivering a difference in the communities where we serve is at the heart of what we do,” said Josh Dinneen, Chief Commercial Officer of LaserShip/OnTrac. “We are proud to partner with the Nashville General Hospital Foundation to feed Tennesseans in need and help make a positive impact in the Nashville area.”

Founded in 2020 to provide hunger relief to victims of the Nashville tornadoes and COVID-19, today NGHF’s Food Outreach Program supports individuals and families struggling with food insecurity across Davidson County. In just two years since launching the program, NGHF has provided over 250,000 no-cost, nutrient-dense, shelf-stable meals to more than 10,000 households.

“Nashville General Hospital Foundation’s volunteer partnership with LaserShip/OnTrac has been an important part of supporting those in our community living with food insecurity. We are so grateful to Lasership/OnTrac for their weekly delivery of no-cost, nutrient dense food totes that bring shelf-stable, heart-healthy food to those in need,” said Kate Haygood, NGHF Volunteer & Food Outreach Program Manager. “One in seven people in Davidson County live with food insecurity. With partners like LaserShip/OnTrac, our food outreach program is able to make sure many families can receive life-sustaining nutrition deliveries at home.”

LaserShip/OnTrac and NGHF recently expanded their partnership to facilitate monthly deliveries of 100 shelf-stable meals to the Hispanic Family Foundation (HFF). HFF provides a number of programs focused on strengthening and improving the quality of life of Hispanic families in Middle Tennessee.

The announcement of LaserShip/OnTrac’s partnership with NGHF comes over a year after the company’s Tennessee expansion. LaserShip opened its first-ever branches in Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville in May 2021 to help e-commerce retailers reach over 4 million Tennesseans, while creating hundreds of new jobs. Since expanding to Tennessee, LaserShip merged with West Coast-based carrier, OnTrac, in late 2021 to create the first nationwide last-mile delivery network for e-commerce.

Guest Article by Josh Dinneen in PARCEL: Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket—Diversification Is Key https://www.ontrac.com/guest-article-by-josh-dinneen-in-parcel-dont-put-all-your-eggs-in-one-basket-diversification-is-key/ https://www.ontrac.com/guest-article-by-josh-dinneen-in-parcel-dont-put-all-your-eggs-in-one-basket-diversification-is-key/#respond Wed, 19 Oct 2022 20:15:04 +0000 https://lasership.com/?p=87829 By Josh Dinneen, Chief Commercial Officer of LaserShip/OnTrac. Originally published in the September/October 2022 issue of PARCEL (pgs. 36-37)

The e-commerce landscape has changed dramatically over the last two years. Retailers have had to balance the acceleration towards e-commerce and meeting consumers’ expectations of fast and free home delivery with rising rates, surcharges, and crippling volume constraints from national carriers that erode profitability and compromise customer satisfaction.

As retailers seek strategies to overcome these obstacles, what was already trending has now become crystal clear: Putting all your eggs in the single-carrier basket doesn’t work anymore.

Carrier diversity is a proven solution that can help retailers lower their costs, increase their flexibility and capacity, and meet consumer demands. Here’s why retailers should act now to diversify their carrier mixes to create a supply chain that sets them up for success.

Shipping Is Getting Even More Expensive
National carriers have generated billions of dollars during the e-commerce shift by prioritizing profits over partnerships. By their own admission, national carriers are focusing on revenue quality and selectively choosing volume that can maximize yield through GRIs, surcharges, and repricing customer accounts.

The Cowen/AFS Parcel Freight Index, which tracks parcel transportation pricing versus a January 2018 baseline, reached a record-breaking high of 27% in the second quarter of 2022, as fuel surcharges more than doubled from last year. Meanwhile, UPS saw a 5.7% revenue increase in Q2, despite a 4% decrease in average daily volume. The remainder of the year will continue to be expensive for FedEx shippers, based on the company’s recently-announced peak residential delivery surcharges for the holiday season, which can range from $1.25 to $6 for FedEx Ground and $2.25 to $7 for FedEx Express. UPS is expected to follow suit with a similar pricing structure.

Consumers Are Expecting Faster Home Delivery
As more consumers shift to e-commerce, fast and free home delivery has become a competitive differentiator for retailers. Seventy-four percent of consumers are choosing one retailer over another based on the availability of next-day delivery. Avid shoppers, or those who make six or more online purchases a month, are increasingly likely to shop with a new retailer that provides faster delivery options. In fact, 85% of avid shoppers indicated they would try a new retailer that offers next-day delivery.

Likelihood of Trying a New Retailer
Slow delivery also causes retailers to lose customers. Seventy-one percent of consumers consider slow delivery to be three or more days, and they will shop elsewhere to get their items delivered faster.

Impacts of Slow Delivery on Consumer Purchasing Decisions

In addition to delivery speed, free shipping and home delivery continue to have a major impact on consumer shopping decisions. Seventy-five percent of consumers say that free shipping has a major influence on where they choose to shop in 2022, up nearly 20% from 2021. While many retailers invested in buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS) and other forms of click-and-collect during the pandemic, an overwhelming 87% of consumers still prefer to receive their items at home. Sixty-four percent of consumers that use BOPIS are driven to do so to avoid paying for shipping.

Preferred Delivery Methods: Home Delivery vs. BOPIS

Single-carrier shipping strategies have proven unable to provide the service that retailers need to satisfy consumer expectations. Retailers need to pursue an alternative that can provide fast and free home delivery while helping them protecting their margins. The days of relying solely on one carrier are long gone. If retailers want their businesses to thrive, the shift to carrier diversification needs to begin right now.

Data shown in charts reflects findings from LaserShip’s 2022 survey conducted with Hanover Research.

Coming in 2023: We’re Expanding to Texas! https://www.ontrac.com/coming-in-2023-were-expanding-to-texas/ https://www.ontrac.com/coming-in-2023-were-expanding-to-texas/#respond Fri, 19 Aug 2022 16:45:35 +0000 https://lasership.com/?p=85079 Our Texas expansion will help retailers reach an additional 19 million consumers with faster, more reliable delivery at a lower cost

Our team at LaserShip and OnTrac is excited to announce that we’re expanding to Texas to help retailers reach 19 million new consumers with faster, residential e-commerce delivery. Starting in early 2023, we’ll be making deliveries from our first-ever facilities in the state in the fast-growing urban megaregion of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

Everything is bigger in Texas—including our 300,000 sq. ft. Dallas-Fort Worth facility, which will operate as our major sort hub in the state and will facilitate millions of deliveries to more than 7.6 million residents in the greater DFW metroplex and provide easy access to the I-35 and I-20 corridors. We’ll also be creating hundreds of new jobs at the four facilities to help meet local delivery demand and boost economic growth across the regions.

As national carriers are admittedly focusing on yield and revenue quality rather than their customers, we are helping retailers win more customers and build brand loyalty across the Lone Star State. Our priority has always been our relationships with our retail partners, and feedback we received from them overwhelmingly highlighted the need for a proven alternative to national carriers in Texas. We are proud to fill that void and provide retailers with a parcel carrier that can help them meet their customers’ expectations of faster delivery, scale their businesses, increase their flexibility, and protect their margins.

By expanding to Texas, our combined LaserShip and OnTrac delivery network will reach 80% of the U.S. population in 2023. Retailers will also be able to take advantage of our new transcontinental delivery service to reach consumers in the country’s most populated regions with faster, reliable home delivery at a lower cost. Launched as a product of our 2021 merger, the transcontinental service connects our complementary East and West Coast delivery footprints to move packages from coast to coast in as little as three days.

We’re thrilled to open in the Lone Star State, and we look forward to welcoming more employees to the LaserShip/OnTrac family and growing our involvement within the local communities.

Logistics Management: LaserShip and OnTrac set sights on new national transcontinental delivery service https://www.ontrac.com/logistics-management-lasership-and-ontrac-set-sights-on-new-national-transcontinental-delivery-service/ https://www.ontrac.com/logistics-management-lasership-and-ontrac-set-sights-on-new-national-transcontinental-delivery-service/#respond Wed, 03 Aug 2022 16:54:19 +0000 https://lasership.com/?p=84306 Following their late 2021 announcement, in which Vienna, Va.-based LaserShip, the largest regional e-commerce parcel carrier and last-mile delivery services provider, and Chandler, Ariz.-based regional shipping services provider OnTrac, announced they had entered into a definitive agreement to merge, with LaserShip acquiring OnTrac for $1.3 billion, the companies last week stated they are taking a major next step in the process.

August 2, 2022—Following their late 2021 announcement, in which Vienna, Va.-based LaserShip, the largest regional e-commerce parcel carrier and last-mile delivery services provider, and Chandler, Ariz.-based regional shipping services provider OnTrac, announced they had entered into a definitive agreement to merge, with LaserShip acquiring OnTrac for $1.3 billion, the companies last week stated they are taking a major next step in the process.

That process, the companies said is the rollout of a new transcontinental delivery service, which they said is focused on helping retailers reach consumers in the nation’s most populated regions with faster and more reliable home delivery at a cheaper cost. And they added that this service will connect the companies East and West Coast delivery footprints, moving packages both way in three days.

When the merger was initially announced, LaserShip and OnTrac said they would form the only pure-play national e-commerce solution in last-mile parcel delivery and enhance customers’ ability to meet growing demand in the consumer delivery market. And they added, at the time, that in order to ensure continued exceptional service through the holiday season with expectations of heightened shipping volumes, LaserShip and OnTrac would not begin to link their networks until 2022 and would operate independently until then.

Josh Dinneen, Chief Commercial Officer at LaserShip and OnTrac, told LM that this transcontinental service is a huge win for retailers, as it empowers them to reach consumers in the country’s most populated areas with faster, reliable, cost-effective home delivery.

“As national carriers continue to implement surcharges and off-schedule rate increases, our transcontinental service gives retailers a proven alternative that can help them diversify their carrier mix, increase flexibility and capacity, and scale their businesses by reaching 74% of the U.S. population across 30 states and Washington, D.C.,” he noted.

What’s more, Dinneen explained that the transcontinental service launch was based on overwhelming feedback LaserShip and OnTrac received from their customers about the need for a carrier with their speed, reliability, cost-savings and service, but with nationwide scale.

“Our new service fills that void and we’re excited to serve as a supportive, long-term partner for our customers,” he said. “We are also expanding to Texas in the first quarter of 2023 in the urban megaregion of Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio to reach an additional 19 million consumers.”

In terms of the competitive benefits the network’s launch provides, Dinneen said it goes back to how retailers have had to balance consumer expectations of free and fast home delivery with rising delivery rates, surcharges, and capacity constraints that erode profitability and customer satisfaction.

“By connecting our East and West Coast delivery footprints and launching our transcontinental service, LaserShip and OnTrac help retailers solve that problem, as we have evolved into a critical part of the e-commerce infrastructure,” he said. “Leading omnichannel retailers and direct-to-consumer e-commerce brands have already signed up to secure volume ahead of our launch. Our new service enables our combined company to provide delivery solutions on a national scale. We look forward to continuing to innovate for our retail partners in the future.”

When LaserShip and OnTrac first announced the merger, Rob Martinez, founder and co-CEO for San Diego-based Shipware, an audit and parcel consulting services company, told LM that it should be viewed as good news for parcel shippers, as the parcel industry has been clamoring for alternatives to FedEx and UPS for years.

“Having real competition nationally can potentially reign the runaway price increases we’ve seen over the past couple of years,” he said. It’s also great for the industry in general and it is exciting to see significant investment continue to pour into the logistics and delivery space.”

The transcontinental service connects LaserShip and OnTrac’s complementary East and West coast delivery footprints to move packages from coast to coast in as little as three days.

Our teams are constantly working to understand our retail customers’ needs and determine how we can provide the most impactful solutions. The feedback we received from our retail partners on the East and West Coasts highlighted the need for a carrier with our speed, reliability, and service but with a nationwide reach, leading us to combine our complementary operating footprints to launch our new transcontinental delivery service. The response from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive, as many leading, omnichannel retailers and direct-to-consumer brands have signed up to secure volume ahead of our launch.

How Will Retailers Benefit?

Our transcontinental service combines the scale of national carriers with speed, greater capacity, cost-savings, flexibility, and personalized service to help retailers win customers and build brand loyalty.

The benefits of our transcontinental service include:

  • Meet consumer expectations and foster customer loyalty with faster, more reliable delivery.
  • Move packages across the country in as little as 3 days.
  • Reach 74% of the U.S. population across 30 states and Washington, D.C. in major metropolitan areas
  • Coast-to-coast coverage empowering retailers to scale their business and reach more customers across major metropolitan areas.

Transcontinental Delivery Service LaserShip and OnTrac

As a dedicated, long-term partner, we are proud to help our customers solve problems and scale their businesses. Our transcontinental service empowers retailers to grow by opening up more markets, enabling access to the country’s largest population centers, and providing faster delivery at a more affordable cost. This new service is a major win for retailers seeking growth, and we have even more developments on the horizon. We are working to continue to expand our operations and have plans to launch in Texas in 2023 to reach an additional 19 million consumers. By this time next year, we will be able to help retailers reach 80% of the U.S. population across the country’s major metropolitan areas.

Carrier diversity has become fundamental to supply chain success in the wake of the e-commerce shift. By merging LaserShip and OnTrac and launching our transcontinental delivery service, we have evolved from regional carriers into a faster, cost-effective, coast-to-coast alternative for retailers and a critical part of the e-commerce infrastructure. Retailers will finally have a transparent, supportive, long-term partner that can offer nationwide coverage, speed, service, and reliability, while helping them protect their margins and expand their businesses to build long-term success.

Why Is This Important?

Since the pandemic first accelerated the shift to e-commerce, retailers have had to adjust their shipping strategies to accommodate rapid growth, overcome new challenges, and meet consumers’ evolving expectations. At the same time, retailers have been getting squeezed as national carriers continue to implement rate increases, surcharges, and crippling volume constraints.

The impact of the cost increases and capacity constraints being levied by national carriers is being felt by retailers across the e-commerce landscape. Sixty-five percent of top online retailers have experienced an off-schedule price increase in the last two years, on top of general rate increases. Additionally, 34% of retailers currently have their shipping capacity capped.

Magnitude of Off-Schedule Price Increases

Raising prices and continuing to cap shipping volume in an environment where capacity is already extremely tight necessitates that shippers look to alternative carriers. With our new transcontinental service, retailers will be able to offset rising costs and capacity challenges, while reaching their customers on a national scale.

What’s Next?

Our transcontinental service is the first of many innovations to come as we work to integrate the LaserShip and OnTrac networks to form the first pure-play, coast-to-coast partner of choice for last-mile e-commerce deliveries.

We are thrilled to launch this service to help our e-commerce shipping partners meet consumer demands of faster delivery, achieve growth, and protect their margins, while diversifying their carrier mix to build flexible, resilient supply chains.
