Significant Insurance Premium Increase

Insurance companies just don't want to take on high risks.

Either they will load the premium OR just refuse to offer cover.

RAV4 have a known higher risk of theft ( nearly as high as Lexus RX, NX & ES ) via an easy to carry out theft method.

Thanks robo1 yes you are probably right as that makes sense. I will try to speak to lv this week and see if they are refusing to insure all ravs or just some from certain areas. I will try a comparison site to see if I can get cover from a good insurance company , if not I will have to think about selling it. It seems also that hybrids seem to not be popular with insurance companies which is ashame as I I like them. I may also ask lv what they will insure in London.
Don’t know what the selling price for my rav would be, probably not very much if people can’t get insurance.

I did a compare the market search and LV quoted me, a PR post code.

Depends on manufacturing date. Recent models have the Toyota Security Key (TSK) software implemented which nullifies the CURRENT can bus attack. Doesn't stop thieves damaging the wheel arch and bumper though.

Looks like it’s down to postcode then.

I am in Rugby.

On a multi car policy I have just renewed my 20 plate Rav for £538, the missus 23 Yaris for 421 and our daughters 19 Aygo for 1118.  Im 54, wife is 49, daughter is 18.

For these days I thought that was pretty good.

This was from Admiral.

That sounds pretty good for a rav, so it must be London cars lv don’t like.

Not sure where the Daily Mail get their figures from. They quote 1164 stolen but the DVLA 2023 data that it supposedly comes from lists the top 10 by total number stolen and has the Discovery Sport at 10th with 954. Yet the RAV4 isn't in the top 10, which suggests it must be less than 954. Go figure????

Years back the Wail did an "expose" about the boss of the company I worked for.

Big picture of his house.

Except it wasn't his house.  I knew as I'd been to his house the week before.

Keeping my fingers crossed for my renewal... 🤞🏻

Last year, I forgot and then at the last minute had to go hunt for insurance cover...needless to say it was a lot higher than I wanted seeing they capitalize on that last minute search to sting you...the "Inglorious ******"!!

I hope to hit somewhere near to what I had the year before... 🤞🏻 or better the years prior...! 😆

  • 2 weeks later...

I started this thread 1 year ago tomorrow when I got my RAV4 insurance renewal quote and it had increased 38%. Many posts later, and I was waiting in anticipation (aka dread!) for this year's renewal. Well what a suprise, it's actually gone down! About 10% lower than last year. So still a net increase over two years, and the compulsory excess has increased by £50, but much better than I expected.
