Hybrid car insurance refusalshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/218177-hybrid-car-insurance-refusals/I have just been reading another car forum (not toyota) and the post I read was from a young guy who had modified his car.

He has had an accident and is now worried because he DID NOT INFORM HIS INSURANCE COMPANY OF HIS MODIFICATIONS and they are coming to inspect his car.

When you insure your car and say "no modifications car is factory spec" it means your car is how it left the factory.

If you change your alloys for steel wheels with winter tyres you have modified your car.

It is best to tell them of ANYTHING you change because they will find ANY way to say in the event of a accident "sorry sir you are not insured".

I had my windows tinted and mud flaps fitted,I told my insurer and they sent me new Insurance documents with the items on it (no extra cost).

Now for the good bit,I rang around for renewal quotes and 2 companies would not cover me because my tinted windows were "not factory fitted".

So if I had not declared them I would not have been insured,in the event of an accident, and my car inspected.

The bottom line is that if you do ANYTHING which takes your car outside factory spec TELL THEM !!

It might cost you a bit on your premium but will save a FORTUNE in the event of an accident.

Sorry if I am preaching to the converted but this is an easy trap to fall into.

I'm In Shockhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221215-im-in-shock/ As mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I am collecting my new C-HR on Monday. I received a text today from the dealer telling my what the registration number is. I rang An Post Insurance,  who have me covered with Aviva, (but bear in mind I am in Ireland). After the obligatory automated menus, I was put straight through to an advisor - no waiting, no silly music and a young lady that appeared to be in Ireland, (!). I told her that I wanted to change the vehicle cover from next Monday and, after getting the necessary details from me, she told me that the cover was sorted.................and I would get a €23.59 refund :shocking:. The new car has a bigger engine, it is brand new and is worth a few grand more than the Yaris Cross, yet appears to be cheaper to insure!

Insuring a Hybridhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220405-insuring-a-hybrid/ have just received my insurance renewal and noted that my Hybrid is classed as Electric. I had a long discussion on the phone to tell them this was the wrong classification, I am conscious that elect may increase my insurance cost and after they went through all of their categaries they still insisted it was an Electric .
I explained as it has a engine and nothing to plug in it is a Petrol , they are going to get back to me .
Has anyone else experience this ?

More car insurance wokery.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220357-more-car-insurance-wokery/ Got my monthly newsletter from moneysupermarket.com a few days ago.  Top of the agenda was “How parking affects insurance premiums.”  Among the “excuses” were:

“Garages don’t guarantee lower premiums as bumps and scrapes might occur as you drive in or out.   If you keep tools or sharp objects in your garage, they can cause damage to your car.”   I have never seen a proposal form that allows you to clarify any risks - e.g., some garages are wide with very wide access doors, and some owners have tool sheds quite separate from the garage.  Naturally insurers prefer to assume the worst scenario.

“If someone breaks into your home, they might then have free access to your garage AND your car.  If your garage is separate from your home” (most common arrangement), “you might not hear someone breaking into it.”   Again, conveniently ignored by insurers, neither the home owners nor the car will be on the property in the majority of cases.

“It is often said that the best place for your car, day and night, is a carport. As you might expect, this is because your car will be off the road, likely on your own property, and in a reasonably open space compared to alternative car parking definitions.”     I have tall, locked gates between my house and garage.  At one time, I had a carport placed here, but in the past storm force gales demolished the carport.  GThankfully, at the time, my car was parked IN THE GARAGE!

One thing the insurers have conveniently assumed, is that we are all careless muppets who cannot look after our property.  This careless abandom does not appear to stretch to how we take care of our homes.  Do the insurers think we are idiots, who cannot recognise when we are being screwed?

Yaris v Yaris Cross insurancehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220093-yaris-v-yaris-cross-insurance/ Looking at insurance groups

Appears Yaris Cross is 12 v Yaris 14

Why would that be?

Does the real insurance cost bear that?

Any personal experience?

Car Insurance (RAV4 - MY22)https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219862-car-insurance-rav4-my22/ Morning All,

Has anyone noticed that the RAV4 (MY22) is hard to insurance recently? My preimum quotes have sky rocketed from just under 500(last year) to 800-1000. Directline pointblank refused to offer me a quote because of it being a RAV4.

Did I miss something are they being stolen more or something that I cant think off?

For context I am in a fairly low crime area and have 12 years no claims.

Whats really really confusing is on comparethemarket if I change my no claims from 12 to 2 years it actualys becomes cheaper by around £50...

Japanese import car insurancehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/212105-japanese-import-car-insurance/ Hello all,

Bit of help here for anyone looking to get car insurance for their Japanese imported vehicle. I've rang them all, been told they have to approach other insurers to get quotes back. You don't get the quote straight away.

Adrian Flux 0800 369 8590

Keith Michaels 0800 542 2141  / 0208 1150

Mark Richards 01275 792270

Jap Cover 01275 792270

Performance Direct 01708 564 143

I personally tried the usual route of the comparison insurance sites in England, but none of them recognised the actual vehicle model, and having called many high street car insurers direct, they also, have never heard of a Toyota Voxy for example, it may be the same for many other imported vehicles too.

If anyone else can add to this, i.e any reputable English car insurers who can offer quotes for Japanese imported cars. I'd be interested to know. Being told I'd have to wait to see if anyone would insure the vehicle or not is a bit daunting.

Companies like 'Admiral', 'Elephant', 'Diamond', 'Churchill' don't recognise nor will insure these imported vehicles.

Many thanks for reading and replying.

Owning 2nd Car Insurancehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219819-owning-2nd-car-insurance/ Hi as I had never owned a 2nd car. I am wondering how do I best buying the insurance for the second car.

My current insurance is on my Toyota Verso and has maximum no claims discount.

Now I am considering buying another car, potentially a Toyota CH-R hybrid.

Question and advice:

Would it be more cost effective to insure the CH-R using a new insurance with zero no claims, or use my current insurance which has maximum no claims.,?

I am currently with Churchill but I won't renew with them next time. Also wondering if any company insurance would provide a second car insurance under the same policy..?

Toyota Insurance silly quotehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219642-toyota-insurance-silly-quote/ Insurance for my 2014 Auris due at end of this month. I know prices have skyrocketed, so expected quotes not being cheap. Best price from the Opera Singer & Meerkat Muppet Comparison Sites are just under 600 quid. Quote from Toyota Insurance for, same lever of cover, was well over a Grand. So, that will be a no then ....

Protecting your No Claims Bonus.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/219556-protecting-your-no-claims-bonus/ I believe this adds about 19% onto the insurance premium.  But with renewal premiums rising annually by eye-watering amounts, plus the fact that your premium increases even if you have a “no fault” claim, what benefits do you actually get by paying for your N.C.B?

Significant Insurance Premium Increasehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/212603-significant-insurance-premium-increase/ Had my insurance renewal quote this weekend for the RAV. Last year it cost £386, the renewal is £517, an increase of 34%. Nothing has changed in personal circumstances, other than an extra year of no claims, so I wonder if the reports of thefts has had an impact.

I've checked on comparison sites and this is still a very competitive price.

Anyone else seen a similar jump in price?

Car Insurance!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/210813-car-insurance/ Well that was like pulling teeth!

The Mk4 is up for its 3rd year of insurance and what a PITA!

My current insurer wanted over £800 (!!) and comparison websites were returning quotes 700+, except for Morethan who were mid-500s, but after actioning the quote and then calling them to note the Dashcam and steel wheels, they came back and said their system wouldn't let them insure my car with the steel rims! Told them what other insurers did and questioned how they would handle having winter tyres on steel rims, but they wouldn't budge and basically said I'd have to put the 17's back on or the policy wouldn't cover me :wallbash:

My last 2 insurers couldn't even add steel rims as a modification as they didn't have an option for it, and their policies stated they only needed to know about modifications that increased the performance or value of the car, so they just noted it with no change to the premium in the notes on their system. Don't know why Morethan have such a weird policy... if anything I should get a discount for having steel rims!!

Direct Line wanted over £900 (!) and Toyota wouldn't even give me a quote via their on-line form (Didn't bother calling them), but by a curious twist of fate I have ended up with Adrian Flux!

Initially their quote was very high too (>£700) but after I accepted and then cancelled the policy with MoreThan, I called them back a few days later and discovered they'd had a cheaper quote for me come back in the mean time (~£530), just hadn't told me about it like they said they would, so it's a good thing I called back!

I think from now on I'll call them first then let the quote stew for a few days while I try all the others, then call back and see if they got any lower ones...

Alas having a Dashcam or being a member of this club didn't attract any discount on my policy with them tho'!

Cheaper premium?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/217358-cheaper-premium/ Like most people my attention has been drawn to the rising motor insurance costs. Our premium has already gone up about £150 last time round because we had a couple of claims, none of which was my fault. One of the claims was paid by the third party, the other was not, as someone ran into our car in a car park then scarpered. So the next price increase will be a double whammy.

I've considered changing from the corolla to a yaris. The yaris is group 14 where the corolla is 21. That said, I've read that the yaris is still expensive to insure. Can someone advise me on this, I have max no claims discount and never been involved in an accident that was caused by my driving.

Tinted rear windows increase premium 25%https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/201055-tinted-rear-windows-increase-premium-25/ Planning a long trip and finally got the rear windows in our Prius tinted to keep the car cooler and stop direct sun falling on the dog. The number of cars I see with this seems to have increased a lot in recent years - seems like the majority of cars have it now.

I am insured with Toyota and was pretty shocked that when I notified them of this it resulted in a 25% premium increase. Luckily there is not long left on the policy and it was pro-rated so just around £30 to pay. But still seems absolutely outrageous to me.

Will certainly not be renewing with Toyota. Wondered if anyone else had had this issue or could recommend other insurers to look at at renewal.
