Oil, the tail wags the dog - again!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221786-oil-the-tail-wags-the-dog-again/ Ms Sarah Finch challenged Surrey County Council, on behalf of Weald Action Group, and added more uncertainty to the UK’s independence on energy.  The Supreme Court judges ruled on a three-to-two majority in favour of the action.  So Finch, her lawyers and the judges (a handful of trouble makers) have created a situation that may adversely affect some 60 million UK subjects and, in the long term, increase the risks of regular power outages.

”I am absolutely over the moon to have won this important case”, says Finch.   Well, bully for her!    With this “important case”  being unlikely to have any measurable effect on global warming, the results on our own ability to generate our energy independent of other countries WILL have a measurable effect.

Finch obviously hasn’t considered (or doesn’t care) about the hundreds of patients who rely on electrically-powered, home-based life support equipment, where a power outage can have life-threatening occurrences.

Also, the products from oil are not limited to energy production - they involve substances for the treatment of medical conditions, some of which are critical in supporting life, and shortages in these areas could mean people may die unnecessarily.

Our government must curb these activists and their fee-grabbing lawyers, and make the UK operate for the benefit of the many - not the narrow-minded few.

Toyota Roadside Assistancehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/212633-toyota-roadside-assistance/ I just had a renewal letter for the Toyota Roadside assistance, and it's not looking good

Firstly, it has gone up significantly from £72-ish to £89 (!!).

They've also removed the 2-year policy, which brought it down effectively to about £67-ish (Bargain!), and they have also removed the discount for having more than one vehicle covered at the same address (Major suckage).

In light of that, and the revelation on another thread that they claim to offer unlimited callouts but threaten to charge you if they're called out for the same problem more than once within 28 days, I'm feeling much less inclined to renew as I've watched it get steadily worse value over the years and it's hit a tipping point with me now.

Before it was a total no-brainer, but now it's merely competitive. Am currently leaning towards other companies other members have recommended, like GreenFlag and Start Rescue. Any other recommendations welcomed!

I do wonder what happened to the old Toyota team who ran the Roadside Assistance call centre; They were much easier to get through to and talk with. The whole thing is run by the AA directly now, and they've always been far more tedious to deal with (I think in an old thread I said it was worth going through Toyota Roadside just so I didn't have to deal with the AA call centres!!)

When I first got the Toyota Roadside, it was something like £50 (Which was an absolute bargain) and you got lots of perks like discounted airport parking, wine, hotels and such (Admittedly almost nobody used them but still...), then they switched from the RAC to AA and 'streamlined' it so it was just recovery (Fair enough we thought, since practically nobody used the aforementioned perks), then the price kept creeping up a bit every now and then, which was fine as it was only by small amounts, but to get such a large increase with such significant limitations on the callouts allowed as well just rubs me the wrong way...

I mean, am I wrong or are they very expensive now? The AA's headline price is nearly double for equivalent cover, but if you pay monthly instead of yearly they're currently offering a 33% discount which lessens the difference significantly AND it isn't tied to just one car but follows the driver, plus I bet there are still the traditional AA discounts you can wrangle. GreenFlag and RAC are virtually the same price, although I haven't checked if they have similar sneaky underhanded clauses like the AA's 28 day thing.

Products with too small “directions for use”https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221609-products-with-too-small-%E2%80%9Cdirections-for-use%E2%80%9D/ Needing some knotting varnish, I visited Wickes, which is our nearest DIY store.  They sell Knotting Solution (250ml which is pricey at £15) but had to have it.  It is a solvent based solution, and does have COSHH advice.

But the literature printed on the label.  - and there’s a lot of it - is so tiny that it is so difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass.   Many manufacturers pare guilty of this fault - from DIY products to foodstuffs.  When shopping in supermarkets, I find best before/use by dates very hard to read - frequently because they ‘wrong colour’ printing on unsuitable backgrounds.  One example is a brand of pie - small white print on a pale orange background.

The government are good at insisting upon packaging having lots of information (e.g., nutrition values), but should they not have gone further and legislated for ALL important information to be of reasonably large print, and with a strikingly visible difference between print and background?  Shoppers with very limited vision must really have problems.

It’s election time again!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221495-it%E2%80%99s-election-time-again/ Electioneering - I’m fed up with it already. Differing parties accusing others of being useless. Pledges flying about like confetti if a party is returned to office.  Those pledges should have been in previous manifestos.  Polls stating who will, or will not, win and the possibility of a hung parliament.  Well, whoever gets in, I just hope they are capable and run matters for the benefit of the whole country - not just for favoured sections of it.   I might just get an inflatable and an outboard motor, ready to cross the channel and sneak into France! 😎

Anyone had experience with Fiat 1,2 engine / Ford Ka mark2 ?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220056-anyone-had-experience-with-fiat-12-engine-ford-ka-mark2/ I know I can find the info on a Ford Ka or Fiat forum but I'm a bit lazy to go and join that ... And don't think I really need it either.

Did anybody here get experience with the Fiat 1,2 engine or Ford Ka mark2 ?
I bought a second hand one for my wife cause we both liked the model.

Fiat isn't the biggest reason to celebrate I guess but what I know about them, the engines are the least thing to worry about.

Any ideas or experiences are welcome.

MMT jerking at low speeds.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221559-mmt-jerking-at-low-speeds/ Hi all, got a 2011 C1 (same car as the aygo, citroen owners club wasn't much help) which developed a problem in first and reverse gear recently at extremely low speeds. With no pedals pressed and the car 'creeping', it jerks quite badly, making it quite a hoohaa to park without looking like a learner. It never did this before and its something that's developed fairly recently. Using techstream and a VCI cable, I've already scanned for fault codes. Two codes came up: P0900 Clutch Acuator Circuit (Hist), and C1541 Vehicle Speed Signal (Current).

Cleared the P0900 code and drove it for a few days, rescanned, and the code has not reappeared. Not cleared the other one because it comes up as current.

Is this whole problem just down to a calibration issue? If it is could someone outline the EXACT procedure for doing this in my car's current drivable state? I have not changed any part of the gearbox mechanism including the acuator. All procedures I have found seem to be unclear about the steps before the calibration. I'd rather get it right first time rather than ending up with a car that doesn't drive at all. The car drives bang on in every other gear and the clutch still pulls well at 101000 miles. Its just the problems outlined that let it down. Thanks for all your help.

Can you believe product technical specifications?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221477-can-you-believe-product-technical-specifications/ My old Black & Decker workmate gave up the ghost after many years of faithful service, so I searched on line for a good portable work bench to replace it.  I found a Bosch model on line, and have recently bought it.  A great buy, but I nearly did not buy it.  When I looked at the technical spec on their website, it gave the weight as 11,600 kg., and I just don’t have the lifting gear to shift 11.6 metric tonnes! 😃

D-Day celebrationshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221514-d-day-celebrations/ Watched a little of the programme on GB News - lost interest at seeing constant palm greasing and cheek pecking by the stream of dignitaries.  The event has simply become a jolly for the privileged.  And commentators who were not even born then, speaking as if they were experts of those landings.

We were on a campsite in France during the 75th D-Day anniversary. A couple of fellow Brits (husband and wife) decided to go to Avranche for the celebrations.  They were stopped by the police before they got anywhere near the event, or the invasion beaches. Everything was tight security for the dignitaries.

They returned later, feeling quite disgruntled - saying the celebrations were for high society, not the common people who would probably show more genuine sadness for the dead.

My wife and I have visited several war cemeteries, including Omaha and Thiepval.  The British Commonwealth cemeteries are the most harrowing - you can walk right up to the headstones and read personal script, such as “…only son of…”, with names of 18 - 20 years of age being frighteningly commonplace.   We also visited a German cemetery - not as well kept as the Allied ones - with 29,000 graves in it.

I am not ashamed to admit that we both had tears running down our cheeks  - we are glad to have paid our respects, but we could not face that sadness again.  Unlike the dignitaries, who were exchanging conversation and laughter with no apparent solemnity of the occasion.

Tyre Replacementhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221347-tyre-replacement/ Just had my Yaris Cross serviced, they found a dangerous hole in a front tyre down to the canvas.

Their replacement price was £206.  I haggled down to £157 which was marginally less that KwikFit, and the same as Halfords/National Tyre.  I then went to Formula 1 tyres - £139.

Make is not relevant, just the totally different prices for the same tyre.

How much is enough?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/208381-how-much-is-enough/ Why are retailers and supermarkets altering their prices daily as well as not passing on the reduction in the wholesale price of petrol? With the wider increase in living costs this is nothing more than profiteering.

The government are also raking in vast amounts of extra fuel tax with these high prices. This madness has to stop.

Phantom road works?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220884-phantom-road-works/ Just over a week ago a Highways Maintenance lorry arrived in the road and, two doors below us, they placed four yellow cones in the gutter and drove away.  Nothing happened. And a day later the cones disappeared.

Last Friday, the four cones reappeared in the same position, but this time a further two in the gutter on the opposite side of the road.  This morning May 7, without anything happening, the cones have disappeared again.

The only explanation I can think of, is that the cones are undergoing tests to check that they are working satisfactorily.

Water Metershttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221325-water-meters/ Last April we changed to a water meter - daft paying the fixed charges based on rateable value when there are just the two of us.  So, a week or so ago, I received a call from Severn-Trent, asking if our water usage habits had changed. This was because our usage had increased considerably - from an expected 200 litres/day to around 500 litres/day.  Just recently, we have had a new bathroom fitted and a large patio laid.  Both contractors used water, but the S/T agent said this would not be the cause of the increase, and so a visit from an engineer was arranged.

Yesterday the engineer visited, and confirmed the meter was working correctly, and there were no leaks between their stop tap and mine.  The engineer suggested that I should go on line and check my bills, and gave me the current meter reading, and the serial number of the meter.

I did some checking (the bills are a pig to understand) but one thing I spotted was that the serial number of our meter, given to me by the engineer, is different to the serial number shown on my bills.

I contacted S/T and told the agent about this anomaly, and now there is an investigation to be carried out to see if I am being overcharged for water.  What a ruddy mess!

Mandatory conscription if Tories win the election.https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221264-mandatory-conscription-if-tories-win-the-election/ Having read the details given on BBC News - or lack of details depending on your point of view - I can only say what a load of codswallop (had to control myself there).  From the vague information available, it is totally unclear what are the parameters for exemption or what the punishment might be for refusing to serve.  He does claim to know that it will make conscriptees proud of their country.

Come off it, Rishi.  At the time of 2 years conscription for military service, people were more subserviant then.  Today’s youth will not be so willing to be forced into any form of “service to the country”, and there is a large Human Rights movement ready to back the resistance.

Millions gave their lives to protect their country, and “make it a place for heroes”.  Indigenous descendants have watched the country being handed out to outsiders on a plate

My late Dad had a record in his collection, and the song was “There’ll always be an England” and he played it regularly.  It is now in our attic, and will never be played again - more likely a candidate for the tip on the next clear out.

Sunak’s only gain (or should I say loss?) is that thousands of young folk, who just might have voted Conservative, will now turn to other parties to cast their vote!!!
