Sump plug and washer

Could someone confirm if the sump plug and washer is the same size for all Toyota engines. 

95% are, some early 90's models had a larger plug, all recent stuff is pretty much the same

Hi Kingo. You say thar 95% are is this correct as I thought different Toyota engines have varying oil capacities and oil pan designs. The sump plug size and washer obviously needs to ensure proper oil drainage and a secure seal to prevent leaks. A larger engine might require a larger drain plug opening for faster oil draining. As the models and engines vary across the range I understand that the same models would but is it right that that higher percentage would be pretty much the same. If this is the case then its certainly worth knowing.👍

Was going to buy from eB*y on the washer for my Verso 2010 diesel 2.0 with part no. 90430-12031. Seller advertised as fitting for 2005 to 2014 Toyota diesel and petrol. 

The washer has been reused a few times now and it needs a new washer in case it leaks.

No, most plugs are the same size, 14mm head size from small to large engines. Some early had 19mm plugs

@Perfection That part number has changed to 90080-43037 from the original number, they should be changed every time the plug is taken out, due to it being fibre (one time use) 

Re sump plug washers, I remember a mechanic re using a aluminium washer while changing the oil on one of my cars.

I understand that even these are crushable and not for re use.

I always put a new one on when I could change oil myself.

Given that these are only a few pence each, I can only think that this was just pure laziness or can't be bothered.

Unless I am mistaken of course, I would like to know for sure , so that I know ready for next oil change which will have to be done by a garage.

You can get away with it in a pinch but expect a weepy plug!  

Is a silly thing to omit though, pennywise-poundblitheringidiot or whatever the term is. Even Toyota give you a new one if you get their servicing kit!

That's what I thought Cyker, but wanted to be sure for next change,as some miracle metal washer that could be re used infinite times may have been invented.😆

Just the usual lazy mechanics who don't care then.

I bet they put new ones on their own cars though.

Sounds like the same type who over-tighten the plug to stop it weeping and strip all the threads then try and charge you for a new sump...!  

I try to avoid such garages...!

We sell several hundred a month 😁

Is this to self mechanics though,or indy garages too ,do you know?

Both, and retail customers doing their own servicing. I always sell a sump washer with a service kit, it's poor engineering practice to skimp on fitting one

It is indeed Cyker, I have posted before I think about the fast fit garage that changed the oil on my old Talbot motorhome.

It being 30 years old at the time, they did have the old 20/50 oil suitable for the engine, and furry dice too , which was a plus point.

Trouble was, the young lad who did it was not blessed with mechanical skills,or any common sense.

Cross threaded the sump plug, which deposited the new oil all over my pristine driveway, which was recently done complete with the extra crystal,read broken plates from a jumble sale.

The cure upon return, was the highly skilled manager to keep tightening the sump plug while cross threaded, until I stopped him before destroying the rare sump.

Unfortunately I am now too old and inflexible to show people how to do their job, I do however have empathy for the hard of thinking
