Sticking gearshift

Hi,why does my 66plate hilux,hard to shift gear after driving on motorway for about 1hour,changing from 6 to 5,like it’s hydraulic locking in gear,have to force it out of gear,only happens on a long run?any advice.

Hi all

not a mechanic but can sort out how to do some work

bought my surf a year ago

low Kms but has had issues that until now I’ve lived with but I need help diagnosing and potentially locating the physical locations of stuff to troubleshoot

issues:

1. Headlights not bright so switched to LED but now have no highbeam

2. at various grounding pointsthroughout the engine I measure +5.7V which I presume affects the headlights

3. When idling I can hear the parking relay click in and out

4. various dash lights will come on randomly (like 4x4 ) when the items are not engaged

5. recently my auto lock and windows stopped working

6. in the last year my brake lights have burnt out twice

I presume it is all tied to a short somewhere.

i checked the voltage regulator and it showed 13.96V when idling and when revved so I assume that isn’t the issue?

I have the service manual from Australia but it doesn’t say much at all and doesn’t show locations of various relays

im looking for any help you can give. I’m in BC and parts to here are expensive and I’d like to fix this as it’s a great off road rig I’d love to keep

ask any further questions or give me suggestions and I’ll try to sort this out

i may be a little unresponsive at times as I have a new baby and house renovations ongoing but I do need to sort this out

Hi, the warning symbols on my car for engine power reduced were showing. I sent it in to Toyota, and they have found that the No.2 injector and rail pressure sensor wiring has damaged and snapped, with slight damage to No.1 injector wire. The car has been used for 5 years and has travelled 74,000 miles. Is there a warranty for this?

I am looking for some advice, I have a Hilux Invincible on order which will be used for towing sea kayak trailers, It has been brought to my attention that there maybe corrosion issues with the Hilux and given the environment I will be using the vehicle although it will not be in salt water but will be exposed to sea spray etc, has anyone had issues with corrosion and what areas do I need to watch. Would having the vehicle wax oiled be prudent.

Hi so my 94 surf engages into 4H fine from 2H but going into Low range i don’t get the 4wd light when pressed also the engine revs without moving the wheels. Then trying to go back to High range it grinds and won’t let me in unless i turn the engine off and select it.

I have a supercab 2017 that I like very much but it is clearly a base model -- is it possible to add cruise control ( on steering wheel I believe) simply and also the driver seat has collapsed abit and would like to replace that -- in doing so would I find the harness has seat heating options/ postion controls pre installed and a higher grade of seat could be added by me

Hi folks,

Any help greatly appreciated, i recently bought a 1994 hilux surf with a 1kz-te 3.0l engine, and am in the middle of a restoration project, I have stripped the engine down and bought lots of new parts ( turbo, water pump, alternator, glow plugs, injectors etc etc etc ). Bought a new head ( had a costly accident when reassembling the old one ) and reassembled the engine. And it fired up first time. But I have excess oil pressure, and it’s pouring out the intake valve on the back on the rocker cover and straight into the turbo. I put a bottle on to see how much was coming out and approx 500ml in 10 secs. I have no blow by when I remove the rock cap. Done compression test and cylinders all sitting at 430. I am now at a loss to what the issue is, and would appreciate any help to identify the issue.

First Post on here, so wanted to say Hello..!

I have owned a 1994 4Runner with the 3.0 V6 Petrol Engine and Manual Gearbox, for a few years, enjoying it immensely and appreciating its Retro Looks.. Needs a bit of tidying obviously, but otherwise is a smooth runner.. You can tell by the Photo below that I love it..

Anyways, looking forward to sharing, quizzing and hopefully helping others on here..!

Hilux engine vibration/drone?

So I have recently brought a manual 2006 Hilux, which is now creating a loud engine drone/ vibration.

It happens under load, between 1500 - 2000 rpm, only in gears 3, 4 and 5. It is the worse in 4th gear.

I have taken it to my mechanic, and he thought it would be the engine mounts, so I have replaced them, where nothing was resolved. Ive also recently had the diesel injectors replaced. I have had all new oil in the difs but the vibration is still there?

Does anyone have any idea where this vibration could be coming from??

Toyota Hi Lux Alarm Fault

I have a 2008 Hi Lux and the alarm keeps activating for no reason. It can be parked for 5 minutes or an hour and just activates. Audible and indicators flash. I can reset it and after a short time it will go again. The only way to prevent this from happening is to leave the keys in the ignition. Obviously not a good solution, no alarm armed and keys in......

I have seen others have the same trouble but I haven't seen any answers / solutions to this problem.

Ideas please ? ( sensible ones only )

I have ahda my invincible 200 since new and have had the same problem for 21/2 yrs now, most nights just whgen I get into a deep sleep the alarm goes off ffor no reason, the Toyota dealers (6) I have had the car at say there is no problem, my ASBO says diffirent??

Help........ can any one shed any light on this problem?

Kun26 D4D Limp mode over 3000rpm

2007 Hilux 280xxxkm goes into limp mode when engine is working hard. It occurred on a recent highway trip several times - anytime I went over 140km/h or 3000rpm. It has also occurred when on steep gravel inclines and I assume the engine has revved over 3000rpm.
it will enter limp move but once I turn the engine off for 5 seconds it resets and drives fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Power Loss

3 litre M reg toyota surf losing power under throttle. Engine management light shows. Lift throttle and coast - light goes out, power returns. Have been told it is code 14 (or R14) error , which is control valve (or solenoid valve) for fuel pump.

Does anyone know where I can get one please? Or if there is an alternative that will work just as well. Surrey area. Thanks

2022 hilux cracked widowscreen

I have a Toyota hilux that I was driving hit a small pothole and the front screen started to crack and eventually was completely across the screen I got home and contacted my insurance company for a replacement,the wheels were put in motion and to cut a long story short there are no screens available in the hole of Europe I have been informed that the earliest time I will get a screen will be in six weeks time. The vehicle has already been off the road for two weeks.
Looking at the forums online, there does seem to be a problem with this issue yet. Nothing has come forward regarding warranty claims.
I have now been in contact with toyota direct and phoned them many times as I now have a vehicle that I can no longer use for work, and considering the amount of time I’m expected to wait for a replacement screen, I would expect a replacement vehicle
Unfortunately, nothing can be done until I take my vehicle into my local Toyota dealer. For inspection I don’t think this will miraculously make a windscreen appear.
The vehicle is booked in for Tuesday for inspection, but a broken screen and the unavailability of it will not change But I am now driving a vehicle to a dealership, which I don’t think is now structurally the same as it was, but unless it is inspected Toyota will not consider any form of replacement vehicle, and it is also not in their policy to supply a vehicle whilst waiting parts
I do think a replacement screen is very much wear a tear item and to have no availability for its replacement on a vehicle less than two years old costing £45,000 is pretty bad. I owned many land Rovers before buying my Hilux, as the reliability of them was pretty poor, but a replacement vehicle was always in place

My vehicle has now been in to the dealership and they have confirmed it is a stress fracture which is covered under warranty, I am tracking back when this fault was first discovered on other vehicles and so far I have found that this was a problem before I purchased my vehicle and I think that Toyota has supplied me a vehicle that was not fit for purpose in the beginning.
I have phoned Toyota GB again today but they are awaiting a report from the dealership ( they could just pick up the phone to get this information as I have already)I have been without a vehicle for nearly 3 weeks so far and am pretty disappointed that Toyota has dropped the ball in such a big way that surely someone must have notice the vast amount of windshields required was not normal and the fact none are even being produced (information from major windshield suppliers).
I will keep you updated on the progress I’m also posting this on other platforms for response

I'm new to this forum not sure if this is allowed or not, I have done an engine swap on my 1990 YN80 single cab Hilux and the original 2yc and four speed gearbox I have available for purchase.

If you know of someone that is doing restore back to original please pass my information on to them.

Comes with the following: Starter, Alternator, Radiator, Fan Shroud, Fluid coupling, fan belt, water pump, engine mounts, cooling hoses, gearbox mount and all bolts.
