At the time the fuel cost about $16/kg. The car came with $15,000 card which was good for 6 years. I bought the car expecting the fuel card to last me 5-6 years based on the price of fuel at the time. I would never buy the car otherwise because even at $16/kg, this car which is essentially a toyota Avalon cost double the price to fuel that an Avalon would cost. A few months later, the fuel doubled in price to $32, I got a letter from fuel provider that the price went up “temporarily due to shortages”. Now, for the last 18 months, the price has been about $36/kg, so a full tank has cost $170! I would like to find other owners who want to sue Toyota.

Hydrogen in the UKhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/215205-hydrogen-in-the-uk/ Any time I've mentioned the Toyota Mirai on a forum elsewhere or in the discussion about EVs versus regular ICE cars it gets laughed out as being impractical. Here in Northern Ireland there's only one pump in Belfast I believe.

I'm posting this here as it's most relevant to Mirai owners and you folks with them are probably best placed to share your thoughts and experiences.

My thinking is that since there seems to be no real solution for large HGVs in the realm of batteries and practicality (not to mention the power grid) - and there is not likely to be one from now until 2030 - a Hydrogen concept for HGVs is probably the only real practical solution. With that being the case and all of our goods across the UK arriving by lorry, won't there need to be demand for Hydrogen stations most everywhere? IF that happens, won't we all have a reasonable travel to go to find a suitable station that will provide this - problem solved?

How likely is this?

I haven't read all of this but have been skimming it. Hydrogen has a plan and is set to be at least a part of the governments plan for 2030/2050. I read a similar 2020 publication on just how they intend to make EVs work (notably ignored the Battery production ethics / sustainability) but it omitted anything bigger than large vans entirely. UK Hydrogen Strategy (publishing.service.gov.uk)

All hydrogen stations in Denmark are closedhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/216503-all-hydrogen-stations-in-denmark-are-closed/ By new year 2023, hydrogen can no longer be purchased in Denmark.

There are around 130 Toyota Marais, that are completely useless. Toyota will help the owners to find another solution. Denmark only have 6 hydrogen stations, but was promised 13 new ones in 2024.

Hydrogen stations needs to be in place, before the cars starts selling in larger numbers.

Fuel cell lifetime, other specificationshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/215079-fuel-cell-lifetime-other-specifications/ Hi, I'm doing research on the hydrogen economy and I'm interested in hydrogen powered transportation.

Is there a general consensus among Miata owners on how many miles or years you can get out of a Miata before the fuel cell needs replacement?

What is the cost of FC replacement?

Also, how many hydrogen fuel tanks are there and how much does one weigh and cost?

One more please, about how much do the fuel cell and motors weigh?

Many thanks.

The Hydrogen infrastructure still sucks!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/202284-the-hydrogen-infrastructure-still-sucks/ I leased my Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol';">Mirai in July 2019.  Please add my name to the growing list of Mirai owners who are angry and irate about the unpredictable and clearly undependable hydrogen refueling infrastructure in California.   On almost any given day in September 2021, full half - and often far more - of the hydrogen refueling stations in the state listed on the Hygo app were not fully operational.  Moreover, based on the Hygo app data, many of the offline stations actually had fuel.

I've been tracking the Hygo app data for the past six weeks.   The numbers for Sept 28th reflect the problem:

  1.   Less than a fifth (18 of  52/19%) of the working CA refueling stations posting to the Hygo app were GREEN - meaning fully operational/online;
  2.   More than half of the CA refueling stations  - 28 sites / 54 % - were RED (offline) on the Hygo app; and
  3.   Fully three-fifths (17 of 28 or 60%) of the RED/offline stations had 30 kg or more of hydrogen fuel.

As of this morning (Sat, Oct 9 @ 8:33 am), only 21 of the 52 operational refueling stations in CA are online (GREEN);  29 are offline and 17 of the offline (RED) sites have at least 20 kg hyrdrogen.  Moreover, some of the offline venues have significant fuel on-site according to the Hygo app:  Concord - 742 kg; Oakland - 302 kg; Placentia - 472 kg; Studio City - 492 kg; and Sunnyvale - 293 kg.

Toyota's explanations and apologies notwithstanding, these numbers document that the refueling issues we all experience not just about supply.  There is a real problem in the reliability of the refueling sites.  And although Toyota does not own or manage these sites, it does have an obligation to help fix this continuing problem for Mirai owners.

Like many, I'm mad as hell.  The unreliable refueling infrastructure (coupled with the disappointing "real driving range" on my 2019 Mirai - just 212 miles) makes it almost impossible me to plan for short day trips of 75 or 100 miles from my home in Studio CIty to Santa Barbara or Laguna Beach.  And there is just NO WAY I could consider using my Miria for the 120 mile drive to Palm Springs or San Diego, as a refueling site that might have been online when I left could very likely be offline when I would need to refuel for the return trip home.

ARE YOU LISTENING, TOYOTA?  Attention must be paid.  I want out of this car.

Damage to fueling receptacle?? Dealer claiming damage during fueling??https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/200469-damage-to-fueling-receptacle-dealer-claiming-damage-during-fueling/ Has anyone heard of damaging the fuel receptacle on our Mirai??

My warning light "FC System Malfunction" turned on on my 2017 Mirai after fueling last night.  When I took it to the dealership for diagnostics, they said that the receptacle was damaged and is leaking gas.  Replacement is estimated at $800 worth of labor!

Does this sound like a possibility to anyone else??  Those pipes go through some aggressive handling when we are trying to secure and remove frozen gas nozzles but to "break and cause a leak"??  Sounds a little shady to me...considering going to another dealership for service.

Any input would be appreciated.

H2 infrastructure badly neededhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/199291-h2-infrastructure-badly-needed/ In the entire SF Bay Area at this moment, I can see 12 H2 stations.  Only 4 is showing as functional.  The rest are off line.  One of them has 8 kg of H2 left.  Fuel capacity of a 2021 Mirai is 5.6 kg.  This ain’t ready for prime time.

What is Mirai lifetime?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/187762-what-is-mirai-lifetime/ I have a request for anyone who owns a Mirai or has access to one. There is an expiry date printed on the inside of the fuel door. It is illegal to re-fuel the car after this date. How many years from date of manufacture is this?

Too expensive!!!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/178781-too-expensive/ Just throwing that out there. :)

What do others think? According to a 2016 Auto Express article, the Mirai in the UK is £66,000, whereas the car is said to be going for $57,000 in the USA (~£44,000).

Why is this car so expensive? I understand the technology is new, but seriously - if they want this technology to become mainstream, they have to make the cost much lower.

I think we in the UK are also being ripped off in this instance. How is the car £20,000 cheaper in the USA?!

Now open for orders... Anyone?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/187690-now-open-for-orders-anyone/ Curious about people's views, just noticed the Moral is now open for orders online.

At a price of over £61k, is this the next thing or destined to fail?

Personally I'm liking the concept, but the price makes it hard to see sense in any purchase that's nearing Tesla model S levels?
