1ZZ engine problem

Hi everyone I own a 03 plate roadster which I've owned for 4 months is go full service history and been well looked after. I've found out that there can been engine problems with the 1ZZ engine. What are they and can they be fixed.

From what I’ve read (not a professional) it’s something to do with the pre-cats going bad and the insides pulled into the engine which causes damage to the piston rings resulting in excessive oil burn/loss of compression.  

I think pre-facelift cars suffered with this more but all roadsters are susceptible.  Some gut (empty) the pre-cats, I chose to install a turbo and decat pipe - upgrade still pending..

Oh on that note, if removing your header be careful not to shear the bolt at the top left, it’s in an awful place to try and remove as it’s within the header pipes…
