1985 MR2 Help!https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/220475-1985-mr2-help/ Hi there. My 86 year old mother has been driving her 1985 MR2 for the last 39 years and it's still going strong. She's quite a celebrity in our neighbourhood, this white haired old lady in her tiny sports car. The problem is that the seals are gone on the windows and sunroof and water is getting in. The boot seal is still OK. Does anyone have any idea where I could get a set for her? They seem almost impossible to source.

All help gratefully received.

What Is This Switch On My Dashboardhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/72702-what-is-this-switch-on-my-dashboard/Hi, newbie owner so excuse if this is a stupid post.

I've just bought a '92 G-Limited Jap Import MR2 MKII, there's a switch on the underside of the dashboard next to the fog lights and I have no idea what it does. It's like a light switch and lights up green when on, I'm taking a punt that it might be something to do with demisting headlights or mirrors but its a complete guess.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Goes into Gear But won’t Drivehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/211504-goes-into-gear-but-won%E2%80%99t-drive/ Hi so I recently purchased an MR2 as a project car was originally a non runner but managed to get her running again now I’m having issue with getting the car to drive.

It goes into gear in which the linkages move and I hear the gears moving but it won’t move at all and I just can’t seem to get drive.

I’m assuming that it’s a clutch issue but just wondering if anyone has any advice

Many thanks 👍

30mm Hub nut locking caphttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/208963-30mm-hub-nut-locking-cap/ Does anyone know of a good source in the UK of the castellated locking cap for 30mm hub nuts?

The Toyota part no is 4352516010, or 4352522010 - however, these caps were used across loads of Toyota and Lexus models from the 70's to the early 2000's - from Hi-Lux to Celica, Corolla, Camry, MR2, and so on) so I'm sure there are plenty of different but equivalent part numbers. I'm happy with a unbranded or aftermarket version.

Plenty available in the US

Looking for advice MR2 air condition and demister issuehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/210771-looking-for-advice-mr2-air-condition-and-demister-issue/ I've recently purchased an MR2 MK2 SW20 G-Limited edition. There is an issue with the air condition and demister as it is not producing the warm air. Could there a leak or an issue with the compressor? I fear it is a leak then the whole dash will have to come out and this would prove a bit costly.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Super Excited to have purchased a 1992 MR2 as my first project! Its been sitting 10 years. Any suggestions?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/201476-super-excited-to-have-purchased-a-1992-mr2-as-my-first-project-its-been-sitting-10-years-any-suggestions/ Hi folks! As the title states I've just come into ownership of 1992 MR2, 3SGE, automatic, originally imported from Japan. I was originally looking for a mx5 or mr2 manual but I couldn't say no to the price - €1700 after negotiations.

Anyway, a little about the car. Its been sitting for 10+ years, with the last tax in 2010. After it was imported, a replacement engine was put in. Theres 200k km's on the clock - presumably the "new" engine has many less kms.  It drives but is misfiring (2 cylinders) and idling rough. As well as this, the car reeks of petrol fumes in the cabin when running: old petrol, bad fuel lines, worn rubber parts? Lastly, theres rust on the door sills. I haven't gotten a proper look underneath as I'm waiting for it to be delivered to my new place. Tyres are understandably dry rotted and the windscreen is cracked with gaffer tape across the top seal. Interior is mint. Body work is good. The black paint is a bit bleached by the sun. Import papers are there. 3 keys and immobilizer. I'm a bit confused as I haven't been able to open the drivers door with any of the keys and for now am locking the car through the passenger door.

I was looking for a project so this suits me. I'll be working on it over many months in my workshop. I was wondering if any experienced owners could point out some typical jobs that would need attention on a car like this apart from the usual stuff. In my mind the list of things to do, roughly in order of importance:

  1. Sort out the misfiring - the shady guy who sold it to me told me its only coil packs, hopefully hes right.
  2. Full service: spark plugs. engine and transmission oil, all the filters, brake rebuild, brake lines.
  3. Sort out the fumes if still present after service - Fuel lines, not sure exactly what else other than clean petrol.
  4. Sort out the rust - A friend of mine has suggested someone for welding.
  5. Suspension - I'm thinking coilovers, not necessarily to lower the car since its low enough stock imo, but to improve the drive.
  6. Tyres and windscreen.

The above are the main goals to get her healthy. After this I would like to think about a manual swap, though I know this would be a big project. Cosmetics will fall in the above list somewhere too - respray, new wheels (or refinish the stock ones).

Having said all that, what are your thoughts on what I should be looking out for? I'm certain I haven't considered some important things. Should I change gaskets? Any thoughts on the fuel smell? Thank all!

Mk2 alloyshttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/199029-mk2-alloys/ Hi! I'm trying to restore a mr2 I've not bothered with for 10years. It's a 1992 non turbo import and needs a bit of work. Can someone help me with alloys? What size do I need? Where's the best place to get decent ones? If I remember rightly, it used to have 17" on the back and 16" on the front... But I've had them changed twice since and don't know much about cars.

Thanks in advance.

MR2 Seat Belt neededhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/207011-mr2-seat-belt-needed/ Hi All,

Newbie here.....I've recently acquired a 2001 MR2 MK3 (Roadster i think...) and its failed its MOT because the drivers seat belt doesn't retract fully.

Toyota tell me the part (T73210-17170-C0) is no longer available and to instead look online/ebay etc, however when i search the internet it doesn't find this part number at all?

Does anyone know the part number i should be searching for, and or know where i can purchase one?

Many Thanks

CO and Lambda fail at MOT any advicehttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/206967-co-and-lambda-fail-at-mot-any-advice/ Hi,

I have a Mk2, rev 3 1995 import.  It has failed on the CO and Lambda emissions.  It has a new cat, O2 sensor and the pipes all look ok.  It runs rather high at 1500rpm.  Can anyone suggest anything else I can try.  Proving a real headache.

It runs absolutely fine, which makes it even more frustrating!

Thanks, Val

MR2 mk2 speedo 'running fast' ?https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/205359-mr2-mk2-speedo-running-fast/ Hello all, hopefully someone can help/confirm the fault and fix.

I have a Mk2 Revision2 which was purchased in Oct last year and is used on weekends so I have not spent a lot of time with it yet. However, I believe the speedometer is inaccurate and appears to be running 'fast' ( better than slow I guess ). I have been driving for 38 years and have a pretty good idea of approximate speed thus when travelling at what I believe is around 30mph the speedo reads between 40-45mph.  I have been aware of this for some time but equally noted that the speedo quickly returned to zero as I stopped, however for a while yesterday whilst stopped at traffic lights the speedo hovered between 15 and 20mph. Approximately ten minutes later it returned to zero when stopped and continued to do so for the rest of the day although while travelling it continued to give readings that appeared faster than I was actually travelling at.

I have noted on an MR2 specialist site. ( MR2-BEN ) that the Rev2 onwards has an electronic speedo and I guess there lies the problem. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and if so can you confirm the repair. At the moment I am assuming I need to replace the electronic gearbox sensor which is about £300.

I will be most grateful of any and all helpful replies and thank you in advance.

Kind regards, Simon.

MR2 MK2 Door Replacementhttps://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/203358-mr2-mk2-door-replacement/ Hi all

I have a 1991 rev 1 MR2 with many holes corroded in the bottom of both doors. Rather than trying to repair them I was just going to get 2 new doors for it, but I was wondering if anyone knew if I had to get rev 1 doors or if they were all the same?

Thanks
